Well, the song resurfaced, so I should probably share it. Why couldn't I find it? Because the vocalist isn't a Feist-sounding girl...it's a guy called Gabriel Rios.

Ok, then does anybody know of any good acoustic blues renditions of Voodoo Chile, period?

[Answered] Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Gabriel Rios

Ok, so Brenda Russell busted out a wonderful version of Voodoo Chile on Monday. Female vocalist, has a bit of a Norah Jones quality to it. The guitar work was far more John Lee Hooker than Jimi Hendrix. The closest I've come to finding it is a version by Brett Ratner on iTunes, but perhaps other peo...

*OPEN* Coochie-Coochie-Coo, maybe?

So last February when I was in Barcelona, I got to hear this amazingly high-fidelity version of what sounded like Ella singing "Coochie-Coochie-coo". Seemed to have a pretty long narrated intro or something, suggesting it was a live recording. It was hi-fi and crystal-clear enough that I'm...

Playlists

Also, I'm flattered that you'd want to see my playlists! Let me post July's, as well as some commentary on how I think about my playlists. General thoughts: 1. I arrange my songs by feel rather than tempo, hence the weird tagging on these songs. Alas, I don't have album information for them. 2. I ar...

Hmm...if I may offer an interpretation on I'se a muggin... It comes right after Darktown Strutters' Ball, which is 5 minutes of crazy intensity. My guess is that most people would either be ready to rest or be expecting something to get them back in the groove. So a Django ends up being a stark cont...

Previewing

Proto--
Instead of VLC, you might be interested in using a nifty little Mac program called DJay. Let me know if you want it--it even does live slowdowns without changing pitch!

Since the place is usually empty (most people are lightweights who go to sleep at 11!), I have no qualms about playing the following. :)

[plug] DJay 2.0's out!

This is for all you Macbook users out there... For the last year, I've been using a little freeware program called DJay to do most of my spinning here in the bay area. It was developed by 3 German university kids as one of their CS projects, and works remarkably well. They designed it to function li...

Lately I've been closing with the 1:50 rendition of One O'Clock Jump that ends the Blues Alley album. It's nice because it's a hats-off to the nonexistent band, and I can follow it up with any style of dance I want for cleanup time.
