Re: 2013 ILHC Slow Dance Finals - Mikey Pedroza & Jo Hoffber

I don't think this is Solomon's arrangement -his drummer has a lot of emphasis on snare which is missing here. This is very noticeable on the break /"slow" part.
From listening I *think* this version is slowed down as well, but I'm not sure (listen to the horns in the beginning).

One of the reasons I don't like automatic/calculating BPM meters is that they are so often wrong. I don't have my music with me, but isn't Apollo jump more like 156 BPM?

Changed my mind on this; I now search within smartlists and enjoy the automatic updating.

They've treated me well.
I once thought they hadn't sent me a CD and they sent another one with no questions. Then I found the original CD about 2 weeks later in a "must listen to" pile by my desk.

DJs make a commercial decision to edit. I think that is significantly different. Julius, it sounds (to me) like you are perhaps romanticizing musicians. (Almost) all these guys wanted to make money. They sought fame. They sought commercial success. I'd venture to say that lame cuts on albums are pa...

* Kermit Ruffins - When I Die (You Better Second Line) Removed entire slow intro. Speaking of Kermit Ruffins, 1). "St James infirmary" 2). "What is New Orleans?" Both are great songs for blues dancing, but were both too long. I'd say the classic edit that so many DJs play is Wyc...

As I recall from a conversation with Jesse Miner, the Lou Rawls & Les McCann version of "Ain't nobody's business" fades at a random point in the song (without regard to phrasing).

I'll try to remember to ask him about the instrumentation of the E/A album. And he'll likely ask "Elektra/Asylum"? Hahaha ...I didn't notice this until now for some reason. :) I'm copying the lecture now; as I listen I realize that my Dad talks about this right away: Armstrong guesting wi...

You're acting like a schoolgirl, Greg. Name-calling! I appreciate you providing an example of "rude passing judgment" -even though I didn't ask for one. :) Golly - Why are you passing judgement on my opinion? Did I ask you to? No. But there you are and demeaning my contribution to the thr...

I've never asked him about what he feels he might have missed... If you ever get a chance, I would like to see his response to that question. Brent Typical answer from my Dad -who is a total workaholic BTW... In short: no regrets. Essentially because he's not the kind of person to look back and 2nd...

Just b/c Greg cites some sensitive people who won't come to this forum b/c of 'thread drift'... Just to be clear, 'thread drift' is not the issue. Unsolicited passing judgment on others' opinions -at times rudely- is. I don't mind you stating your opinion that you don't agree or possibly understand...

Really, listen to some of Someone 's edits before you dismiss the practice, based entirely on theory. We're talking about FANTASTIC music for dancing that just goes on too long, not bringing more and more non-danceable, novelty tunes within the realm of danceable length. :) That's the key: theory v...

You all will appreciate this: I'm sitting here listening to an "interview" of Armstrong that was cut into pieces for a radio show. My job: Make a 5-6 minute introduction to my dad's next talk in New Orleans. The purpose is to show Armstrong's charm through his own words and stories. I've n...
