Like Jerry said, when DJing a club, it's the venue's responsibility to pay ascap and bmi, not the DJs.

Um... what DJ doesn't play "canned" music? Me. See, I've got this new situation where I have a full band on stage behind the DJ booth, and they know every jazz tune from all eras. I cue up songs, and I've got a button that gives the band leader an electric shock. That prompts him to start...

I used to have a lot more variety in my sets than now. But, that's pretty much due to a) my own changing tastes and b) I now pretty much only DJ at Seattle's home for hotter music, One O'Clock Jump.

Interestingly (or maybe not...), my first exposure to this lyric is in the uptempo country blues tune "T for Texas" by Jimmie Rodgers, which, in addition to some might fine yodels, includes the following lyrics: Rather drink muddy water Sleep in a hollow log Rather drink muddy water And sl...

Just play good swinging music and let it happen. Peeps have differing opinions on what give a bal feel. For kicks, here's the song list I used for the All Balboa Weekend invitational J&J: 1. Mora's Modern Rhythmists "Rigamarole" (all skate) 2. Luis Russell "Saratoga Drag" 3. ...

I played "Minnie the Moocher's Wedding Day" last night [on Henry Red Allen's "Ride, Red, Ride" with Horace Henderson orchestra] - a tune I rarely spin so I think it's funny this post is here --- the hive mind is starting to transcend the web site! lol I used that version of that...

My current fave song with a tempo/mood change, mid-stream is one that I used for the final all skate at the All Bal Weekend Invitational J&J. Historically, the last song for this event is "crazy," so I felt I could get away with it. The song is: Mildred Bailey Orchestra, "Shoutin'...
