Well if it's chronological I'll get some kind of rough idea...It is chronological right? Glad to hear good things about the sound quality...the packaging looks great too... I'll be honest... I can't recall specifically if it's chonological or not... If memory serves, it is. But, I'm not sure how we...

I'm a Henderson fanatic, and I own Study in Frustration. I find the quality to be quite good (it various throughout the 3 discs, as the recording sessions were varying in fidelity). It's a great collection and worth having, although I'm not sure it's where I'd go to seek that transitional period.......

It may just be that the set of musicians you deal with in your area "get" dancers more than other areas, Reuben, which is a fantastic position to be in! I can't speak to Austin, obviously, (although it does has a reputation as a music center). But, here in Atlanta, the musicians in the var...

I like some bop. But, you may be more closely connecting "atonal" with "bop" than I do. I think that the lines between bop/hard-bop/cool and so on get blurry, though. So, maybe we're talking different styles or different aspects of the same style. But, I like a lot of Monk, Bud P...

In Atlanta:
Screwin' around fast shim sham = Handclappin' by Red Prysock
"Regular" shim sham = T'aint what you do by Jimmie Lunceford

Personally, I agree with Reuben (wow... that felt funny ;)), Chick Webb's Stompin at the Savoy is my personal preference.

High energy/slower tempo

I'm pulling this into its own thread, because I'm hoping it gets some more attention this way. In the indoor/outdoor thread Mike mentioned the concept of keeping the energy level up while reducing the tempos. I struggle with this quite a bit, because by in large the dancers here are not able to deal...

im talking about keeping the tempos slower, but keeping the energy high. I sometimes have a difficulty putting this into action, which is maybe a result of my collection more than anything. But, any particular tracks or artists you find effective for doing that? *** p.s. Hi GG! Welcome to the board!

so im a child for wanting to finish it? hes the one that picked it. Pretty much using the phrase "finish it" with the implication that said finishing would be an ass whomping indicates to me that it's childish, irrespective of the original comment. But, as best I can tell from re-scanning...

What are you, like, 15? What's next? Are you going to tell him to meet you at the flagpole outside the school at 3pm for a fight?

Sheesh....

Another Atlanta DJ has implied that in his mind there are only two effective ways to deal with tempo: going from slow to fast or going from fast to slow over the course of rather lengthy sets. I find this to be a crock. But, I'm curious if others out there feel the same way. If so, what's the logic?...

only in america can selecting a plastic disc and pushing a button be considered an art. :) Now, come on... you know what I mean. The word "art" does not always refer to "fine arts." In this case art = "the faculty of carrying out what is planned or devised" Where scien...

what kind of situation would you say calls for blending? what kind of situation would make people upset if there is contrast? I don't think it's situational, per se. It's just that people are in different moods on different nights and then other people are into totally other things on any given nig...
