Here's to diversity on the dance floor and personal choices about dancing!! At least I didn't say one should only balboa to these artists, and you didn't say one should only lindy hop to these artists. Lesson for us all: Kevi...

Although I don't own it, I can only envision that "Basie's Beatle Bag" would not make my playlists. :)

Re: Headphones

I know, I know, why didn't I get one in elementary school when they came out like all the other trendy kids? Hey... I resent that. Discmans (discmen? ha ha) didn't come out until I was out of high school!!!! Oh well.. no real desire to be a trendy kid anyway! No help for you on the headphones...

Other issues aside, I find the story telling to be quite boring. I've yet to be able to sit through a full epsiode. In their defense, I tend to watch them just before bed. But, I find myself choosing sleep over continuing to watch.

The SNZ's were certainly lumped into that group, I think primarily due to the timing of their rise to fame. I have no doubt that their influences were different than those of, say, BBVD or the Cerry Poppin Daddies or whomever, in terms of where they wanted their music to be. I think where they encou...

Actually, I don't think it sucks. It's a classic spiritual, and Eva Cassidy's version is quite pleasant.

But, it became the poster child for a) being played out and b) the westie influence on the lindy hop community.

So, it gets a lot of heat for those reasons.

It's a fine line... Hendricks, Lambert and Ross come dangerously close to sounding like Manhattan Transfer, who come dangerously close to sounding like the cheesiest crap on the planet. ;) But, some of the older stuff is cool, if somewhat silly -- I still can't hear vocalized versions of "Chris...

Started on electric bass in 1986. Picked up drums and guitar along the way. Bought an upright bass about 2 years back (still mediocre on it, though). These days I mostly play drums along with early jazz records. However, I just bought a tenor banjo for early jazz use. I hope to set up a band when I ...

I used to play from that set rather liberally when I first got it (maybe 2 years back). Less so these days. But, at the time I played with some regularity: Hot Dog performed by Powell, Chris & the Five Blue Flames - 2:33 I Feel So Good [#] performed by King, Maurice & His Wolverines 2:54 Hey...

I didn't have a chance to spend a LOT of time with it. But, while DJing this weekend at SSJ, I went through some of my McKinney's Cotton Pickers discs. I think you'll find your best examples of "transitional" stuff off of their later recordings, actually.. Check the Chrono Classics release...

Unfortunately, I'm always at work when I'm checking the 'net. If I can remember to do it, I'll dig through my McKinney's Cotton Pickers discs next week (this weekend is SSJ in Atlanta), and thow out some opinions.

Speaking of Fletcher, has anyone checked out the book "Hendersonia?" It's apparantly long out of print and I've seen it come up once on eBay (I think it sold for like $150...ouch). Anyway, I just thought to look in our campus library (I work at GSU in Atlanta), and lo and behold, we have i...
