Our scene has a rather large modern influence and play quite a few of these (heresy, yes I know). My favorites right now: Stronger - Rebecca Loebe (Bal) (the Youtube versions are not good representations) Ain't Nothing Wrong With That - Robert Randolph Let's Do It - Alanis Morissette If You Seek Amy...

I've had a somewhat similar problem converting our scene from highly east-coast dependent to involving more Lindy-able songs. I only DJ once every 4 events, so that may help a little- I can't upset the crowd too much. :) Most people appreciate the variety I interject. I would suggest: 1) Changing sl...

There's no question for me that my musical tastes have evolved. I attribute it to my change in dancing, like la musette. Our scene has been almost strictly East Coast/West Coast for years, it's just now starting to evolve to where more people are doing Lindy. As my own Lindy skills have expanded, I'...

On a similar topic, a friend has asked me if there is any song that starts as a waltz and transitions to a swing rhythm that would be suitable for their wedding dance. Know of any? I would recommend finding instead something you can foxtrot to and then use twinkle-timing to make it look waltzy. The...

Our community

Athens is bizarre insofaras the _majority_ of our music is either 'non-swing' or neo-swing- very little of anything before 1960 or so. And a lot of what we dance is east coast swing, which isn't often applicable to Lindy. As to some that are quite popular and work well: Pon de Replay - Rihanna Swing...

Starting DJ

Hey all, I am going to start DJing periodically starting this new year and I'm very excited at the prospect. Following the advice of many on here, I have tried to expand my collection- over 400 songs at last count (not many relative to some long-term DJs, I know, but better than just 3 CDs!). Howeve...

Everyone wants to be a DJ

Does anyone else find, in their swing scenes, the phenomenon that I think of in a Los Angeles context (hey, I grew up there): Everyone in LA wants to act, and everyone who acts wants to direct. I think "Everyone wants to dance swing, and everyone who dances wants to DJ." At least, that seems to be t...

Make your own

Were I you, I would be inclined to burn my own CD of slow danceable stuff. However, if you're looking for one ready-made, I would recommend: Alien Fashion Show - Alien Fashion Show (at least 3 good slow Lindyable songs) Campus Five - Crazy Rhythm (I use a lot of their stuff for my beginner students)...

Re: Hi, My Name is Gary...

...and I like neo-swing. --Thanks, Gary I'm really glad someone brought this up. I've been watching this group for a few months and have gotten a _lot_ of great music from it. But, fundamentally, I think the orientation of the majority of the group seems to be old-style jazzy stuff, which is cool, ...

Hey, very cool program! It would be nice if you could change the volume on the metronome and if the mini helpfile described what the colours mean. Why is it that the BPM it reports in the bottom right hand corner is higher than the calculated BPM, even when I carry it out to 60s? Different algorhythm?
