I'm a Media Center junkie... been a user since version 9. You can leave your MP3 file alone and just create an XML file... essentially a playlist of the one song you are after... and edit it's IN point in that file. Then you re-import it and voila. The details of how to do this are on one of the thr...

J. River Rocks!
I've been a fanatical J.River Media Center user for years. Yes, the Zones feature works as one would expect... preview to my phones in one zone and play live to the house with another. There is now way to see two zones at once though. Ctrl-T is your friend... it T oggles between all defined zones. I...

Pet peeve: Dead air. One reason I became a dj is that I couldn't stand waiting while the dj picked the next song, cued it, and got it to play. It could take a few minutes, with people standing around waiting. On the flip side, I think I come across as a cranky dj. When people come up to me and star...

Drawing attention to themselves by talking on mic other than short necessary announcements, making big gestures/dancing around in the booth, having a loud discussion with friends in the booth, etc. I think the night should be about the music, not the DJ. Missing a cue because they were busy dancing ...

One thing that has been odd with the multiple zone method of cueing, however, is that the volume control on the panel does not always correspond with the zone you are in. Thus, if you don't pay attention, you might inadvertently turn the volume way up on the main system when you are browsing in the...

Yea, the BPM counter is pretty good. I've found it to be no more than about 6 BPM off from what I count, but then I don't know it's algorithm. I do my counting towards the front of the song where I think people tend to decide to dance or sit. JRMC probably takes into account an average of the whole ...

Hi Jonas, That's just one of many great things about J. River Media Center... It supports the ID3v2 tags really well and lets you store them all inside the mp3 file. It even lets you store the album cover art inside the file. Best of all, you can create your own custom tags and it will store them in...

Hi Russell, I've got an answer for you about setting a playback range via in and out points for a track. Bottom line is that yes, you can do it, although it's not super elegantly supported in the UI right now. Here's the outline, and I can walk you through it off-line if you need help: Create a play...

I'm glad to learn about these CD sets. I'm going to get them, as I love The Boswell Sisters. I recently played one of their tunes at a special event and a couple people commented on how they liked it. It was a Balboa event though, and one of the people was the local DJ, but still, that ain't bad... ...

Hi Russell, That's a good question. I've never had to cue up a track other than at the very beginning so I don't know. You've got me curious now though, so I'm going to look into it. When I've DJ'ed comps I've always edited special versions of the tracks to be the specified length and with a nice bu...

Yes it can!
J. River Media Center can do smart playlists and a WHOLE lot more. You will never go back to anything else after you try it. iTunes wants to be Media Center when it grows up. WinAmp? It's been so long since I abandoned that, all I remember is a vague sense of pain. WinAmp may have improved in the in...

JRiver Media Center!
Skippy is right. JRiver Media Center rocks completely. If it doesn't do what you need it to do... you shouldn't be trying to do it! Seriously, I've been using it for over 2 years and every time I have a whim regarding something I'd like to do with my collection, or how I access or view it, I find th...
