Finally got around to reading this... Excellent find, Mike! I wonder if interviews like this were recorded. Probably not, I'm guessing. I just wish I could hear the stories Fats told the reporter!

The Jazz Discography

Jesse has urged me to post about this: I've been following The Jazz Discography for years now, but have never purchased it because of its cost. For those who have never heard of it, The Jazz Discography is a comprehensive catalog of virtually every jazz recording session ever made. For real. I have ...

Just getting back on here from a long absence... My favorite is Teddy Wilson's alternate take on Neatwork's The Alternative Takes, Vol. 1: 1934-1941 . I talk about this a little bit on the next Hey Mr. Jesse, and I've been planning a blog post on this song for a while now, I'll link it here when it'...

The Harlem Kiddies track from Mike Thibault sounded just amazing! I'm getting the CD from Denmark right away... Great track! Does anyone know the easiest way of ordering this album? Edit: I used my amazing Google skillz and found an online store that sells it: http://www.timelessjazz.com/shop/produ...

It has my absolute favorite version of Rockin' in Rhythm on it, as well as the best version of Jones. Perdido is also really good and... well, the whole album is awesome. I'd say it's worth $25, but that's just me. I'm sure it'll pop up again if the price goes too high. As an aside, there are more u...

Alternate Title Help: Olympia on Parade

I'm looking for an alternate title to a song Steven has used occasionally for classes, Olympia on Parade. I can't find any version with that title older than the Preservation Hall Jazz Band recording from their Best of the Early Years album. But it's definitely the same song being played in this Col...

Oooo, if you have that much to spend, why not get an MP3-capable deck? I've seen this one for $350-$360 online.

Oh yeah. And make sure you turn OFF the pitch control and the key correction on the turntable, even if the slider is exactly in the middle. Having these on routes the sound through the internal digital processor, and even though the speed and pitch are the same, discerning ears can hear the digital ...

I use a single shielded RCA cable to connect the turntable to my SPDIF in port on my Soundblaster Live! Drive. Some PC's come with this port built in, but I would guess you'd need to get a card. Make sure it has RCA SPDIF and not just Optical SPDIF.

You're missing my favorite to play at dances: Ella Fitzgerald w/ Duke Ellington - Cote d'Azur Concerts (Disc 7) I actually prefer the slightly faster version by them on Live at the Greek Theater . Give it a listen, it's more energetic IMO, although it can't match the pristine sound quality of the V...

Hi Kelly, I share a similar passion and have for years... It is not an impossible goal but certainly a difficult one. I have wanted to create the "ultimate" music database for such a long time but it is such a big project that it has yet to materialize. I pretty much had what I thought was...
