Gosh, I'd forgotten I'd subscribed to this thread. It wasn't clear from your post - are you a WCS dancer? If so, pick a half dozen tracks that you like to dance to. Play them over and put yourself in the shoes of the other dancers. Are they peculiar to you or do they have general appeal? Keep the ge...

Don't forget prep time in thinking about your cost. Oh, good point, thanks, I forgot that. For people who know music, I've asked them for a list of songs they'd like to hear. Then I went through my collection, in some cases I had the same song but by a different artist, checked with them if the sub...

Wedding DJing
Here in Canada (different currency, different marketplace) I tend to charge about $75/hour for wedding DJing, plus $50/hour setup/teardown time, plus any rentals (I don't generally need to rent all that much these days, since I've started to buy my own equipment, but that doesn't change the rate I c...

That all changed in fall of 2003. That is when I was in a near fatal auto accident in which I broke my neck, fractured my skull and generally banged myself up pretty bad.Since then I have been 1.) in a coma for a month or so 2.) in intensive care in a few different hospitals for the next 6 months 3....
Re: Insurance issues
Not only collection insurance, but liability insurance is needed. I have been to many venues that would not allow a dj to set up without a $1,000,000.00 Liability policy in effect. I've heard this about the US. I've seen DJs advertise on their site that they have liability insurance. But I'm a litt...
I don't mind people hanging near me while I DJ as long as they aren't in my way, and aren't telling me about their personal philosophy on DJing. This is kinda how I feel. Most people who hang around the booth are OK. To understand the next, you have to know that at the swing dance society dances, w...

Hard-Disk Jokey
I DJ off an Audiotron and some software I wrote myself.
Love it.
A few weeks ago, for various reasons, I did a short gig and didn't feel like bring the equipment along, so just brought a few books of CDs along.
It was like pulling teeth!
In future, only in case of equipment failure.
