Let us know how it goes. Maybe post a playlist?
Hahahaha! Of course not! Why do you think I revived this thread? It was to extract information from you guys, not to give back!

(I'll try to remember. Ping the thread if I'm an idiot and forget?)

Re: Jimmie Lunceford

Thanks for reminding me of that transcriptions disc, Anton! I hadn't listened to it in a while.

I particularly like "Battle Axe" and have DJ'ed it before, I believe.

Re: R.I.P. BB King

:( But let's celebrate, instead. Any albums or recordings you particularly enjoy for blues (or, hey, why not, lindy--bring back the 90's!)? The only album I have is his 1999 tribute to Louis Jordan, "Let the Good Times Roll". I've never DJ'ed anything from it, but I do enjoy listening to m...

Re: Jimmie Lunceford

*bumpety-bump* Lunceford's birthday is coming up on the sixth of June, and conveniently I am DJ'ing the night before. So, what should I play for Lunceford Eve? Anyone have new favourites (perhaps from the Decca Lunceford Mosaic from a few years ago)? Trev? Anton? The other usual suspects? I'll start...

Re: The Chronological Classics Records. Authentic or false

You said you were interested in these for DJ'ing, not for investment. I understand you want "original" if you want them as an investment and believe these will be wanted in a few years on ebay. If you want these as a utilitarian object, though (DJ'ing material), then copy-or-not makes no s...

Re: The Chronological Classics Records. Authentic or false

Why are you not interested in buying copies, exactly? I'm curious! The original label is long-dead, and no new discs are being made. You're not paying for new transfers. The label is European, and all material is outside of copyright there, so you're not paying artists's estates, either (you never w...

Re: Cable management for the OCD DJ

There are no wireless based MIDI controllers that I have seen on the market. That you've seen, maybe, but that's because you haven't looked, not because they're not there. :) Googlification trivially yields, for instance: http://www.amazon.com/Source-Audio-Hot-Hand-USB/dp/B00F9UWMXO I have no idea ...

Is there a way to mute or perma-read a thread/topic?

There are some topics that I am simply not interested in (they may be interesting to others, of course). These topics flag the "new message!" alert on the forum, so I go to the forum full of hope, and find nothing of interest. :( As a stop-gap, I tried adding people to my "foes" ...

Re: A New International Sweethearts of Rhythm

Some of the people in your list are good musicians, but they wouldn't be my pick for dance music (e.g., Brandi Disterheft or Lisa Otey). But I *would* like to dance to: Katie Cavera -- bass, banjo, guitar (she's also playing trumpet now, though I haven't heard her do that yet) Stephanie Trick -- pia...

Re: Uptempo Our Love is Here to Stay

Any suggestions? Tell your friend no self-respecting vocalist would murder a ballad by singing it at that tempo. There are other instrumental versions that are fast. There's a nice Teddy Wilson Trio recording from 1959 that's about 185 bpm and would make a nice...quickstep, I guess. The fastest voc...

Re: Wingy Manone - Ochichornya - which version?

I ran across this old thread while looking for something else. And then I had to go looking for the Raymond Paige video. By now it's on YouTube, of course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxQSZbD0cjA "Dark Eyes" starts around 4:00. The three xylophones are clearly visible at 5:06. Don't ex...
