Cog with iTunes - mac laptop DJing
For all mac users: Tonight I stumbled across a little music player called Cog, which has gotten me very excited: http://cogx.org/ First, it can output to any soundcard. Secondly, you can drag & drop from iTunes into Cog. Basically what this means: You can configure Cog as your Master and iTunes ...

It seems that Jack OSX and Soundflower may work instead of Detour. Here are the links... I'll try them out later this week.

iTunes Hack for Macs: iTunes, Audion, 2 sound cards.
I figured out a 1-keystroke solution to add selected songs from iTunes to another audio player (Audion 3). This solution allows you to cue up songs using iTunes, and play your master line on Audion using 2 separate soundcards. -put songs from iTunes to Audion using a shortcut key. -use 2 soundcards ...

Detour application
Did I mention this app yet for mac? It's called Detour. http://www.rogueamoeba.com/detour/. It allows you to specify which program will use which soundcard. I do without iTunes and DJ1800 because I don't like how DJ1800 stops when it's library is being updated. I use Audion 3 with Itunes. I use Audi...

re:
I disagree that the record companies etc are simply a business responding to supply and demand. MTV, Much Music, Sony BMG, Universal, Warner, etc basically dictate what is going to be played and how much. There are many, many horrible songs that have been released into this world, but have become po...

I've used Audacity before, it isn't terrible and it's freeware. Audacity is pretty good; I've used it a few times. Plus there are plug-ins you can add to do more functions than what is default. ..you can change the tempo without changing the pitch. I thought that was a pretty neat feature of audaci...

AFAIK, there is currently no id3 field for BPM. which sucks. One program I used actually created a id3 field for BPM... iTunes read the BPM field, but unfortunately it didn't carry the decimal place, so my songs were apparently 2000 bpm. Not sure where iTunes stores bpm. I'm going to use some other ...

A growing number of people don't like ripping off songs/cd's that they haven't bought. Since I run the same club I instruct for, I'd rather not take chances by burning CD's for students, and keep a positive image for everyone. Plus it's less work :) I've been going the box-set route for getting my m...

Beginner lindy hopper music suggestions???
Here's a dilemma I'm sure lots of you have run into. A beginner lindy hopper is looking for a good album to dance to. Ie, They are looking for something slower (100-150 bpm), and I want to recommend something that swings. Well, it can even be bad swing music - I don't care. All they want is somethin...

I ended up getting one powered speaker for my classes. Peavey SP10, a bi-amped 270W powered speaker. $410 CAD before taxes. Used it yesterday, and it's sweet for lessons! Just hook it straight up to my diskman, and it's a system. Much better sound quality and power than a boom-box... even if it cost...

Audio Equipment for Swing Lessons
Hey, I'm looking to purchase some sort of audio setup that will work well for teaching swing classes. I've been debating whether to go with a sizeable boombox, or a small dj system. Room size: 700 square feet, 30'x25'-ish, 80 person capacity. Class size: max, 24 people. Frequency of classes: 1-3 day...
