Back to the other part of the question. Should requests for Hip Hop from dancers be ignored? Or is it OK to play one once in a while. I not sure. As a dancer, I don’t mind testing my skill to other styles of music, but as a DJ, I feel such a change in musical style would disrupt the flow of the set ...

Well, I guess there is an agreement that Hip Hop and Swing don’t mix. A few things to defend the swing scene here: Not to be an ass or anything, but by this conversation, it seems like Burlington is about, say, 2 years behind the times? Since the Burlington swing scene is not all that big in terms o...

I absolutely agree with everything you said. Nevertheless, wherever you go dancing (lindy) at any given time and at any given place today, the music you hear has variety. At least I hope so. Some songs make me want to do Lindy, some Shag, some Charleston and some Balboa. Some make me want to leave. ...

This is a cool website. However, like the saying goes “Never trust a statistic you haven’t forged yourself”.

You are somewhat right though. Vermont is much more a modern Jazz and Rock state with only limited Hip Hop places. But I think we are getting somewhat of topic here.

Send them to the Hip Hop club down the street... or do you even have any in Vermont? Well, actually, Burlington has a surprisingly vibrant music scene for a small town including very good and danceable vocalists and bands like Colin James McCaffrey and Jenni Johnson just name two. Anyway, it sounds...

I really love the version from Sweet N' Jazzy - Album: Summertimes. ~ 125 bpm. There is one more version I played once from Lillie Huddleston same album. 200 bpm. I got the songs from iTunes, but now I cant find them anymore on there.

Hip Hop meets Lindy

I noticed at some of my recent DJ sessions that more and more dancers request Hip Hop. Some DJ’s I’ve listened to are trying to compensate for the lack of swingable Hip Hop with R&B that feels more like very slow Westie than anything else (not that this is bad, it’s just not Lindy). The only Hip...

in addition to the flow of tempo i think it should be said that the flow of energy is of importance too. it doesn’t make sense to play the most challenging song at the end of the dance when everyone is tired. i like to start dances with some medium to slow speed (120 to 150 bpm) but high energy song...

I know. I have a few versions of Woodchopers Ball. I just think none of them fits really well. I ended up cutting one of it myself to make it fit the time and the moves. Sounds OK but if someone can tell me which recording Ryan used to choreograph it that would help too.

Hard-Disk Jokey

How many of you guys are using a laptop for DJ'ing? i’m using one. took me for ever to get all my CD's on it. but i’m really happy with it. I actually think i have more flexibility by making a play list and modify it as i go if needed. I'm using Windows Media Player and to the most part wma files wi...

i usually DJ 2 to 3 hour sessions with anywhere in between 30 and 55 songs. i could not do that without repeating some artists. and if you spread them out, and play songs that have a different feel altogether form the same artist or even album that's OK. even if someone notices.

Jitterbug Stroll

Hi, I’m looking for a specific song or CD. “Jitterbug Stroll” from the CD “Just Wanna Swing…” from Steven Mitchell. My dance partner and I want to teach Jitterbug Stoll and this song would be perfect. (I guess I don’t have to tell you guys). All sources I checked are not selling this CD anymore. Can...
