I know this is resurrecting a dying thread, but I have a couple: Goodbye Baby- Great Googa Mooga (it actually swings decently) Happy Trails- Van Halen (this is a bad a cappella version that will make everyone want to leave) Closing Time- Semisonic Not a dancing song Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye-St...

Nima- Our favorite amps are Carvin DCM4000's: http://www.carvin.com/products/dcm.php?ItemNumber=DCM4000&CID=PWA They are not for the faint of heart, but you can't beat them for large venues. In essence, it's 4 seperate 1000 watt amps (@ 2 ohms), or up to 425 X 4 continuous at 8 ohms. It runs abo...

Us too. Our venue is a dance hall with nightly lessons, and the ASCAP/BMI fees are paid by the place. However, there is also a mechanical usage fee of sorts for making copies of a song, which is minimal, but can add up on a large volume of music. This is seperate from the broadcast/public usage of t...

Almost everything on that Steven Mitchell album is a contender- like "SavoyStyle"- ughh....shivers... lyrics make me laugh " Say it loud..I swing and I'm proud!"

The guy can move like crazy, but his music career is iffy.

Jesse- It's very possible that they did try to hire me- but I was too expensive! 8) Especially with the travel- I quoted them $1000 for me and my wife to teach, and me to DJ. They couldn't hack it. I wasn't going to drive 5 hours and stay overnight for any less. If the person you referred to is the ...

I want to let you guys know that I'm not trying to convince anyone to do weddings, simply offer the flip side of the consistently negative experiences people have had with weddings. And I certainly appreciate everyone's genial and fair responses to my opinions. Shana's comment (as well as Jesse's) a...

I can't help but join in, because weddings is how I make my living. There is something to be said for versatility- the skills and methods that I use for DJ'ing a wedding are so very different than those that you use with dancers. There may be some crossover (ie the concept of flow within a set), but...

Thanks to whom ever suggested the Itunes-BPMInspector (I can't go look right now while I'm writing this). I really like it- good application. When you use the Itunes-BPM Inspector and set the bpm, it enters the info directly without having to go to the info window. Once you do this, the exporting to...

We use Sennheisers- excellent quality, good battery life- all 9 volt, and modular. Usually a package comes with a base unit (receiver) and either a handheld wireless or belt-clip sender and either lapel or headset mic. I've used my handheld mic at ranges of 250-300 feet with no problems- and the Sen...

One of the reasons we haven't started using Traktor in earnest is that each time you start it up, you have to load all the songs into it's own library from Itunes (which can take alot of time). In other words, no drag and drop ability and it doesn't use the itunes library that already exists. From w...

Thanks for the clarification- I've always held that once you stop either stop having fun (or finding some other sort of fulfillment) with an activity, it's time to either quit or re-evaluate. On the socio end- I can't prove it, but I think that blues dancing has been responsible for creep-ifying som...

Kalman- For someone who DJ's in a scene almost devoid of blues dancing, would you mind explaining exactly why you're fed up? I've read this entire thread, and have been exposed to "blues dancing", but I'm curious about your reasons for taking such a stance, and if it is a continuation of t...

Yes and no.

1. Yes (but certainly not swing DJing). My wife and I own a business with another couple. We are a production company that focuses primarliy on those weddings that everyone else dislikes so much. We have the advantage of living "smack dab in the middle" of the Northern California Wine Coun...
