In that case why not have them get Frankie Manning's: Really Swinging Big Band Favorites . It has a bunch of good slow to medium tempo songs. http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drf400/f445/f44599t3334.jpg That would be a good solution if it was available. Unfortunately, it's not ... http://www...

Soviet Jazz of 30's and 40's

Re: Communist Swing Music

So, I heard a teaser for an NPR story (at least I think it was an NPR story) the other day about swing music under Communist Russia and that there was apparently one great artist that was supposed to be the USSR's answer to Basie and Ellington and they played an exceprt that was just absolutely swi...

Re: Beginner lindy hopper music suggestions???

A beginner lindy hopper is looking for a good album to dance to. Ie, They are looking for something slower (100-150 bpm), and I want to recommend something that swings. Well, it can even be bad swing music - I don't care. All they want is something they can practice to... great music can come later...

Thanks Andy. It turns out I got that stirring song when I bought the Earl Hines CD "1934-1937" [Classics #528, 1990] in London just a little more than a fortnight ago while attending the Balboa Festival there. Talk about not knowing my own music! /Jonas This one? http://www.amazon.com/gp/...

I think it's really important to remember you don't HAVE to like every song on a record, find a few you like and run with them. I have tons of Ella and Billie that I think are beautiful, talent-filled songs that make me sleepy and I definately don't want to DJ, and rarely want to listen to. Agreed!...

To me, the Golden Gate Quartet one has more energy. You have got to be kidding. If by Energy you mean cheese, then ok ;) The Sidney Bechet version is this one, CD 3, track 7 - http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?r=1&ean=8436006491986 I think both versions are a bit 'cheesy', but ...

Interesting selection. They definitely have the greater sophistication of jazz but I find the selection pretty mellow with the exception of Sweet Georgia Brown. A few suggestions with a little more BAM for Gary to take a listen to and let us know what he thinks: Carnegie Jump - Eddie Condon - Chica...

...and I like neo-swing. ... what is it about neo-swing that makes experienced DJs and dancers revile it so much? ...could you please list some examples of neo-swing tracks you like (song and artist)? The usual ones, of course, from '98: BBVD, "Y&M&BM3", "The Boogie Bumper&qu...

Re: The "I have no clue what song this is" thread

what songs are these and who performs them??? 1) http://cs.geneseo.edu/~gah1/Russell&John.mov I assumed it to be called "I love Pittsburgh" But I haven't found anything remotely close to it. It must be this one by Jimmy Sapienza - http://www.collectablesrecords.com/product-view/00146V...

Re: Indian Swing Music

Bizzare request I know. Our performance group is performing at a Indian (the country) multicultural festival in a few weeks. I thought it might be fun to dance to some Indian swing music (if such exists) in the tradition of Bollywood. Does anyone know of any examples? Dawn Hampton uses a Bh...
