Re: [OPEN] Work Song

It's an instrumental version, probably about 130 bpm, heavy on the horns. That's all I've got to go on from memory, aside from remembering it being very common in multiple locations.

[OPEN] Work Song

I'm trying to remember who the artist is on the version of Work Song that **everyone** plays.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, could we at least agree that electroswing belongs in the "Other Music" section of the forum?

What is swing? - Suggestions of articles

Hey Folks So I'm writing up my own personal opinion of what swing music is (yes, both big S and little s) for a couple of friends of mine and I'm looking for things that others have wrote on the topic, so that I can give links to other opinions as well. Obviously googling doesn't really come up with...

A New International Sweethearts of Rhythm

I was thinking about this this morning: Who would be your ideal line-up for an international All-Star band of women jazz musicians? I would like to see: Bria Skonberg (CAN)- Trumpet Shaye Cohn (USA) - Trumpet Aurora Nealand (USA) - Reeds Gunhild Carling (SWE) - Trombone (and whatever the else she fe...

Correct, but not to a Closer Walk With Thee - the dancing comes at the end of the service (once the deceased has been burie...

Re: Music within the culture shift.

The most played song would be Gordon Webster's "I Like Pie" with Stephen Mitchell on vocals. As DJs our job is to ensure that the crowd has a good time - and that means avoiding tracks that could be potentially triggering for example songs that contain themes of sexual assault ("Baby,...

Re: The Chronological Classics Records. Authentic or false

Are you trying to find out whether its an original issue, a copy or a fake? If it's the later you can find the full discography here: http://ehsankhoshbakht.blogspot.it/2009/05/chronological-classics-complete.html For the original/copy thing - the Chronological Classics aren't being re-issued. I hav...

Re: mosaic sets

So the Running Low sale email dropped in my box today.

Question for those who have it - worth my while getting the Artie Shaw set? He is one of the bandleaders for which there's a big gap in my collection so I won't be doubling up on anything.

Re: DJ Software

A lot of people, including myself, use JRiver MediaCenter - though it's not free. It has excellent library management functions and you can also output to two different sound cards for previewing (though it's kind of clunky) MediaMonkey is also very popular and it's free. Foobar - some like it but I...

Re: King Louis by Proper Box 93: Louis Armstrong

I gotta agree with Trev on this one - but from another point of view - if you're serious about jazz you should be serious about Louis Armstrong and the proper sets are not for those who are serious about certain artists (unless other boxed sets are hard to come by).

Does anyone happen to have the source code for this? It seems to have disappeared off the interwebz. I need to use it to show some locals that Pharrell's Happy does not, in fact, swing.

I read this one: "The World of Swing"

It's a series of (more or less) extended interviews with great swing musicians. It can be heavy going but it's a good read http://www.amazon.com/The-World-Swing-O ... 0306810166

Sounds like new testament Basie, but it's not any of the versions I have.
