Yes, for early Basie I'd suggest:

Complete Original American Decca Recordings
-THEN-
America's #1 Band (columbia years)
-THEN-
Complete Original American RCA-Victor Recordings
-THEN-
Fill in your gaps with the lesser quality recordings

From what I have read it's nothing to worry too much about - a small number of cracked screens have occured due to a supplier problem.

I was hanging out for the folders for playlists - things were getting a bit out of control before that. I'd still like to see an option for choosing your output source so i can send one playlist to headphones and one to the amp, but oh well.

That's the one I was thinking of - Has a great "Oh, Lady Be Good", "Bird Calls", "Jumpin At The Woodside" & "Basie Boogie" etc on it.

If you want to do partner dancing to Hip Hop, wouldn't it make more sense to start with Hip Hop dancing and apply what you know about partner connection to it? It seems really odd to me to try to shoehorn Lindy Hop to fit another style of music. I guess you could dance the same forms but I would agr...

A jazz history book I'm reading says re: recordings of the Carolina Cotton Pickers and various other territory bands: "...nothing survives of them except their stirling reputations in the memories of a few local musicians who themselves went onto fame" Hmm.. looks like they didn't research...

Gotta love the Cootie!

"Roll 'Em" & "Airmail Special" from the Jubilee Sessions are absolutely nutso - recommended!

I'm interested in this CD, but there is a bit of overlap with my other stuff, so i'm not sure if it's worth it; His Best Recordings 1930-1943

I just feel there is SOOOOO much variety of styles, tempos and feelings of jazz music just from the swing era alone that it blows my mind that people who are excited to be doing a swing dance aren't content. Also, if it was a live band (which is the optimal situation) you won't here them play an up...

The first time I volunteered to be responsible for the music, I put together a playlist with a friend before the event. It wasn't really "DJing" at all - obviously you can't respond to the mood of the room - But it was relatively risk-free and seemed to go off quite well. Later I started g...

I have a vague recollection of Benny Goodman doing a mid-tempo version of "Clap Hands Here Comes Charlie", but i may be wrong.

Ella does an up-tempo version with vocals too.
