portable hdd

I've been using 6x 1tb WD my book drives for the last year for home storage. Also have using 4x 320gb WD passport drives that I dj off of; they take their power from the usb port so make sure your ports can supply enough power for them, I had to go with 2 powered micro sized 4 usb 2.0 hubs. It seems...

Tags for your screen

For the money, Tagscanner is very good. I've been using Tag and Rename http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm because the linux based player that I've been using, the iDj2 http://www.numark.com/idj2 On the built in screen it will show a folder hierarchy in each hdd then the file name. I can group each da...

I think it's a little bit of a false dichotomy - I've heard argentine tango djs with vastly different styles. A DJ isn't a replacement for a band because they can create art, and all we can do it "hang it on the walls", so to speak. Your comment seems to me to show a common misconception ...

There are a few songs that I routinely fade into, skipping the intro. In my book, I usually make a note about how long the intro is, this practive makes it a little easier on me when I am trying to queue things up in a hurry. Nathan When I used to DJ from MD's I would cue in on the recording or spe...

Are we not DJs?

1. We're not bands, we're DJs. Thus we play by different rules. I'm not trying to emulate a band when I DJ, and I very much do care about flowing tempo as well as stylistic variety. Flow is super important if you are trying to get the patrons to the bar from the floor and back again. (which would h...

I've even heard of "rotten apples" but that adds nothing to this issue as well.

According to a reply on the PCDJ fxusers.com board (so far):
the MBR has been corrupted and the entire HDD needs to be reformatted again.

- Listen to what other DJs are playing to get ideas . This is probably the most helpful suggestion I can give you. Jesse Right On Jesse! I've always said: "I can't learn anything new when I'm spinning, but I can learn alot when someone else is." another source: CABLE music channels. Found...

Also, I'd roll W2K back to about service pack 3 or 2. They started adding more DRM stuff in 4 and that might be messing things up. If the system is run stand-alone (never networked), and is stable with the old service packs then there is no need to upgrade. I still run SP3 because I don't agree to ...

Also some event promoters prefer to compensate staff for the tasks they
preform because then they can expect a certain level of professionalism.

Numark CD MIX 2

Does anyone have much experience with the Numark CD MIX-1 or CD MIX-2 dual CD player/mixer unit? I have access to a PA setup that provides adequate amplification and speakers but need a CD player and something with the ability to preview/cue. This unit looks like it like it will do the trick but th...

Headphones for DJ use

I've been using Stanton Dj PRO 101 SR headphones for 10 years, they are road worthy. The 101 SR is a single side shoulder rest version headphone that allows quick on/off access with hands-free operation. The 101 SR is supplied with a removable, adjustable, padded shoulder rest. 50mm drivers too. htt...

Re: Establishing yourself...or maybe "breaking in"

So, my question is, any tips for establishing oneself as an actual DJ versus "random guy with music that's willing to try to keep the crowd happy"? DJ because you love it, not because you are willing. Develop a following, a core group of 10-12 folks who love the way you play or love to pa...

BPM or approximate BPM might be useful for cataloging but I find it less useful for selecting a song. Take two songs of the exactly the same tempo. One may sound fast and the other slow (relatively speaking). . hope this helps; I note this difference as "energy level" this is something th...
