I find that when I'm DJing without the help of headphones I have a habit of only spinning the tried-and-true standbys I'm most familiar with. With headphones I'm a bit more ambitious in my selections. Same here. I can DJ without headphones if I have to, but I hate it. I get much more diverse when I...

I don't know my CD's half as well as I should. However, I was able to DJ at the Lindy Summit without headphones (and I only keep liner notes on about 1 out of every 10 or 15 CDs.)

You can also ask Frankie what they danced to....Basie's Jumpin at the Woodside on a 78. now, I ask you to to turn down the audio on Hellzapoppin, and put on Basies Jumpin at the Woodside (there would only be released at that time) ...and tell me if the dancing fits. So either the dancing is Speeded...

Does Justin Timberlake's "music" swing? Of course! When in a dilemma behind the DJ booth, I often put down Chick Webb or Count Basie in favor of Justin. His music just speaks to me and makes me want to lindy hop. It's almost like his music is specifically designed FOR lindy hoppers and sw...

Of course, the only problem I see is that the crowd is a lot more likely to vote for the rockstar DJs like Justin and Jenn than for a podunk DJ like me. Ah, the pressure will be on.

You know what I would like to see? A picture of the layout of the Savoy Ballroom. Is there such a thing? Despite the pictures and whatnot that I've seen, I can't visualize what it was like inside.

Maybe I'm missing something on this album, but I seem to remember all the songs being so bloody sappy they make me want to hurl.

I just bought this today at a store in town that was going out of business. It was $9.00 and I got it for 30% off :D. Anyway, I haven't listened to all of it, but so far the sound quality isn't amazing, but not horrible. I'll post again when I've had a chance to listen to the whole thing.

It seems like the sound level from the intertnal sound card is very low. Does SB Extigy give you more output? Of course, I haven't tried sending sound out to a DJ system, just a home stereo system. Could that be why it doesn't get very loud?

The point isn't to "impose" anything on anyone. The point is to come up with terms that explain what we hear in the music so as to manifest the difference between, for instance, Gene Harris' "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" and the original Ellington recording. As you wrote, Jere...

There's a band called Paris Combo that's pretty good as I recall. There were a couple songs on this CD that I used to play. No covers, just originals. I'm not sure about their other stuff. The review says they "draw from Gypsy, Italian, and Spanish influences along with the swing of Django Rein...

I'll go with that.
