The only problem with that solution is that it won't keep your ratings, bpm or comments, because that data isn't written to the mp3 file, but rather to the itunes library and .xml files. There's no easy way to do this while maintaining all your meta-data, but it's possible. The complicated solution ...

If you're on a mac, you can use Doug's Batch Set Tracks Sorting Tags v1.0 script. Works well for me.

Heh. That's a whole different issue. Now configurable via Sort Artist. You can set the Artist "Django Reinhardt" and Sort Artist "Reinhardt, Django". itunes does a similar trick automatically for 'The' and 'A' like The Beatles will be found under 'B' and A Perfect Circle will be ...

So I went through my collection of Django and set the Artist to the actual name of the group with whom Django was playing for that cut (Le Quintette du Hot Club de France, Django Reinhardt & l'orchestre Hubert Fol, Django Reinhardt et ses rythmes, etc.) and set the Sort Artist as Django. This so...

all great ideas. thanks for your feedback. I was playing around with the comments field per Keither's suggestion (elsewhere) and noted that you can make smart playlists based on the contents of the comments field, and that the search function does take comments into consideration. Now as to the effe...

On organizing music in iTunes, sort fields and ID3 tags

I just got a cubic ton of Django in all his forms (with Jean Sablon, The QHCF, solo, with Coleman Hawkins, with Freddy Taylor, etc., etc.) I also had a lot of complete this and complete that (The Classic Early Recordings box set, the complete QHCF), and now I have to cull, compare, contrast and reor...

If it's the version I'm thinking of (where the guy yells out 'tuxedah!' at around 0:15, and the song is approx. 5:46), then you can get it off of iTunes (if that's your thing) on the album 'This is Jazz': http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=260212665&s=143441&a...

Although I'm 99% certain it's not true, I like to pretend that Blues in Frankie's Flat by Count Basie is named for Mr. Manning.

None of those recordings from the Carnegie Hall sets strike me as particularly Dj-able, but it's a fantastic slice of history!

I got this Swedish song from a friend a few years ago; nice and slow, swinging song piano, snare drum and walking bassline. I had no idea what song it was, since the vocals are all in Swedish. I did some research and found that it's the Swedish band Bo Kaspers Orkester. The song is called Cigarett a...

This is also on the iTunes Music Store. It's a great album and the remastering is very good. I definitely recommend it.

[edit]At least, I'm pretty sure it's the same album...it goes by a slightly different name: Jazz All Stars & Maxine Sullivan - Memories of You: A Tribute to Andy Razaf[/edit]

Well they used to sell it at their band's website, but since that's no longer, you might want to try Waterloo. http://www.waterloorecords.com/v2.html Yeah, Waterloo has some in stock. Jeff, if you have a problem ordering it. PM me. While the band is broken up, the singer (Alice Spencer) still plays...
