Luau swing?

I know this topic was brought up on the email list, but I figured that it might be nice to have a thread on the new website (and make it easier to find for the future). Last night, I was given the mission to find theme-related swing songs for an upcoming Luau-themed swing dance at the end of June. R...

Some of the gals here have bought the "Kissing Jessica Stein" soundtrack. Includes stuff you might have in your collection, but the focus on female singers brought them to the attention of our locals.

I don't use the automatic part of it, I tap along and it tells me how fast I tap. So, best of both worlds. Don't need to use my fingers to add things up. :-)

One set of 3 ring binders with artists alphabetically by last name. ANother binder with compilations. Then, I have a smaller CD case that I take to gigs, with my burned compilations and new CDs that I want to feature, but haven't burned yet. That way, I won't worry as much about having my small case...

The 15 second count works for me. Made a little chart with the x4 count on it (small enough to slip one into each of my CD cases, so I can more easily check BPMs anywhere and not have to remember my times tables). Instead of a watch, I use the little counter on my portable CD player. One of our venu...

One of our monthly dances is the "bring your own music" dance DJed by a friend of mine. The night features mostly standards and, often, songs that I might have had some concerns about overplaying. But the night works well. Every song is a wanted song and makes someone happy. And I get to l...

At a college dance, I had just come off a set of Ellington, Basie, etc. A student came up and asked me to play some swing.

At another college dance, I had just played a few songs that had been recorded within the past 5 years and had a student come up and ask me to play something NEW.

Request...in Houston the Tuesday before GSWLF?

Hey all, I spoke with our regular DJs at the Numbers venue in Houston and we are all in agreement......we would like to invite y'all to come play with us the Tuesday before the GSWLF. We have four DJ shifts, one hour each. It is a volunteer gig and is not a part of the GSWLF official events. What do...

I don't think they are the same person. Betty White was a famous teacher of partner dancing back in the 50s or so. My previous local library had one of her dance lesson books for teens. Included those little footprint descriptions of steps, lectures on good manners and proper attire, ice breaker dan...
