[Answered] Lyrics ID - Alreet, Anita O'Day

Oh, faithful DJs, you've helped me out in a pinch before, let's see how you do with Anita O'Day's run-on words in "Alreet" - here's what I've got so far, with the uncertainties/unknowns highlighted in quotes and question marks: Alreet! It’s the latest saying you want to use, but don’t conf...

1930's swing music remixes for the runway

I've been asked to suggest remixes of 1930's music for a fashion show - something with a modern beat that the models can walk to, but with 1930's tunes in the mix. This is so not my forte, so any suggestions you have for songs and artists to check out would be most welcome.

Thanks!

I hate to be the first one to post, but about 95% of the music I DJ is pre-WWII or later/modern music played in that style. It's my jam. Perhaps some other DJ's with broader taste will chime in...

It doesn't have to be limited to one song, if you feel strongly about a certain instrumentalist or want to illustrate them playing in different styles, etc. For brevity of the task, limiting it to one exemplary song may help.

All of these suggestions are great, but what SONGS would you include on the compilation for each of these that would really showcase their talents? This was a two part question. :)

The best of each instrument

I'd like to create compilations of the best pre-war jazz and swing musicians, but group them by instrument. What performers would be on your trumpet list, trombone list, etc. and what song(s) would really show off their talents? I'm working on compilations for trumpet, trombone, tenor, alto, clarine...

Italian songs?

Hello! I'm looking for Italian or Italian-themed swing songs, WWII era or earlier. No Louis Prima, unless it's his New Orleans Gang. ;)

Allen Kerr's guess was "Mr. Sun will warm your bones all day," which is I think what I'm going to go with.

Thanks for your help!

[Answered] Get It Southern Style, Barney Bigard

I'm trying to figure out this one line from Duke Ellington's recording of "Get It Southern Style," first verse: If you like songs crooned in a lazy way Want all your swing with that rhythmic sway ????????????????????????? Get it southern style Any thoughts? I think I hear the word "bo...

Let's just say it's one of those I'll know it when I hear it things...but looking for something in an earlier style of jazz, without the Ethel Merman vocals.

Anything Goes

I'm looking for a version of Anything Goes that's 200+ BPM and only seem to be turning up versions in the 180's...any recommendations?

Thanks!

Are you asking about releasing a CD like this overseas or releasing it in the US or a combination of the two?

Jazz is such a broad term to describe so many variants. A person's percption of jazz is often personal, and ranges from our perception (which is arguably broad), to those smoky coffeehouse musicians, to (God forbid) someone like Kenny G. It's no wonder the public is lost because jazz has so many ide...

There's something intangible about dancing to a live band that can't compete with DJ'ed music. Of course the band must be good, but when it's good it's REALLY good, and I don't get that feeling from a DJ'd dance. When a good band comes into town I'll definitely spread the word. I'm marrying a jazz m...
