The Death of U.S. Internet Radio?

WARNING: Long and a little boring, but it's kind of important to us I think, given our involvement with Yehoodi Radio, so please give it a read when you get a chance: Are you guys keeping up with the issue of the new copyright royalty assessment rates and structures about to be applied to U.S.-base...

R&B Giant Ruth Brown has Died

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=2663368&page=1 LOS ANGELES Nov 18, 2006 (AP)— Singer Ruth Brown, whose recordings of "Teardrops in My Eyes," "5-10-15 Hours" and "(Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean" shot her to rhythm-and-blues stardom in the 1950s...

The End of Tower Records

As some of you are probably aware, Tower Records is closing all of its stores forever and liquidating its stock during the next few weeks. The company filed for Chapter 11 in late August, 2 years after initially declaring bankruptcy. The company was auctioned off to the Great American Group, an &quo...

Well Tina, I hope you've had a chance to hear it by now. It was a lot of fun to put together, although in hearing it again, I can think of several things I would have done differently. But I'm pretty happy with it. Much thanks to Jesse for bringing it on line and for letting me add some tunes fairly...

I bought this CD last year in preparing to do a birthday tribute for Earl Hines. I thought with the personel it would be great. I was dissapointed. It is just OK to me for listening. Given the personel I was expecting a lot more. I'm not sure how well it is for dancing. Well, I found several tracks...

I've been away from the board for awhile, so I wanted to jump back in with my list of recent buys (alphabetical order): Duke Ellington - Studio Sessions 1957 & 1962 (Saja) Earl Hines - 1934-1937 (Chrono. Classics) Earl Hines - Earl Hines & the Duke's Men (Delmark) Illinois Jacquet - Jacquet ...

Many of the tracks Ron listed are found on the box set The Birth of Soul from Atlantic.

I also regularly play "Roll With My Baby" and "Rockhouse Pts. 1&2," as well as some of the bluesy tracks.

The Jazz Record Mart is one of my two favorite music stores in the U.S. (Haven't been to Amoeba yet.) The other is Louisiana Music Factory in New Orleans, on Decatur Street. I could spend endless hours (and large sums of cash) in either.

I like Aaron Neville's version of "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow." Also his "Louisiana Christmas Day," albeit better for Zydeco.

Call me undecided, but I don’t see where musical style selection is an either/or decision. For me, the key has to be quality and variety. Like some of you, I also have to cater to a broad cross-section of dancers, including Lindy hoppers, ECS types, blues fans, Balboa fanatics and occasional WCS dan...
