I'm enjoying this topic, though it has veered away on a tangent just here. Personally, I'm happy to edit songs that need a bit of editing. I agree with the non-editing crew to some degree - when it comes to tunes like Cottontail, King Porter Stomp, Every Tub, etc. I wouldn't dream of editing them be...

The Back to Basie Orchestra are actually pretty good, with good energy and a solid swing. However, a common comment from the Bal Fest was that they're more interested in themselves than in giving the dancers a good time - it sometimes seemed that they'd rather we stopped distracting attention from t...

Sounds like it's a version of Flying Home and sounds like Ella Fitzgerald. Yep - it's the version off Ella's "75th Birthday Celebration" CD. You can probably find it on other cds too. http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE47917D34AA47520D09D3264C4BB7CF600DF0DF981133C495...

Has anyone tried it out? Just wondering if anyone else has found it useful. I have the .NET framework and tried it out. It seemed to work very well, until it crashed out from a decimal point error and gobbled up my machine resources. Before that, I compared it to the results I got from my usual too...

I have to tip in too: nothing beats a really kicking live band. Almost all my favourite dance nights have been to live bands. Of course, you can also get really crappy live bands that make you long for a good DJ. In London we have lots of nights with jump jive, jump blues and rhythm and blues combos...

"Grand Terrace Shuffle" - Earl Hines, from CC 1937-1939 . What a song! Yep - that one rocks the house down. In the riff sections the floor in the venue is scorched and blistered. Also a big fan of the Willie Bryant Rigamarole & Basie's Every Tub . Dizzy Gillespie's 'Bout to Wail rules...

It was indeed.

In fact, we had 2 Frenchmen play - Laurent & Gontran both rocked sets.

It is unusual. I think Buck Ram's "Ram Session" (which I tracked down thanks to you lot) has a similar structure. I noticed when choreographing to it that each chorus is in ABA structure - with 4 eights to a phrase. Intro: A Ensemble: ABA Piano: ABA Vibes: ABA Sax: ABA Trumpet: ABA Bridge ...

Ella 8 CD Box Set

I've heard tell of an 8 CD box set by Ella that's only available in the States. Apparently it has a kicking version of Mack the Knife on it. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

...I heard Ted Heath is pretty good too... Ted Heath kicks ass. Unfortunately there are lots of really crappy cds of his out there with tacky rubbish on, but if you hunt a bit you can find some absolutely romping tunes. I'm interested to hear this set - I thought Ted was our only decent big band le...

... but I was not in London for the LLX... Could not. So I don't know who were there... May be Olivier (DJ BrotherSwing) or Paulo.. I have no idea... A French chap called Laurence or Laurent definitely spun some tunes at the LLX Sunday party. How exciting to see the LLX mentioned on Swing DJs messa...
