Looking for "Jelly and James"
Hey,
I'm looking for an out of print CD titled "Jelly and James" by Dick Hyman. I checked Djangos, Gemm, htfr, and CDConnection. Anybody have ideas for other places I could look? Thanks

Harlem Stride Piano
I recently saw the clip Jazz Dance, which had a combo including Willie the Lion Smith and some other players. I was wondering if anybody could recommend good later recordings of the Lion or James P Johnson, preferrably with small combos.

I have been doing this Lindyhop thing for about 3.5 years now and I most definitely did not get into it because I wanted to dance slow. Part of the problem people have with dancing fast is because they did not learn how to dance fast when they first started. When a good song comes on, I would like ...

I thought your statement inferred that if people can't dance faster than 180BPM there is a problem with fundamentals. But I can't because I don't practice. Frankie, Bill and Dawn have given me props on my teaching, so I think I can safely say I'm pretty decent with my fundamentals. I know how to te...

Just to give you another perspective, it's more than just that kind of stuff. I lost half a lung to a birth defect and throughout my life I have had a difficult time keeping up with fast paced things. I always find myself winded at the end of a fast song and have to sit out the next couple ... I do...

I see 180 BPM as a pretty telling speed ... IMO somebody who can't consistantly execute clean swingouts at 180 doesn't have solid fundemental skills. I agree about the 180 barrier, but I don't agree about the skills. Last night I had my class doing swingouts at 205 and they were having a hard time ...

That's awesome! I wonder how much of his Hothouse sets are swingin' as he spans a number of genres. I've been in touch with his agent (daughter?) and am working to try to get him to NYC for a swing gig sometime. Roy or anyone else in Chicago, you should definitely try to get him for a local gig...t...

I can say with certainty, that while there is live music to dance to in Chicago(you could dance to live music 5 nights a week within the city limits if you wanted to), by far the most popular nights are DJ nights. I would say that the typical Chicago Lindy Hopper does not average one live show a wee...

I just wanted to say that I find the phrase 'The Usual Suspects' highly amusing, and would assume that it is indicative of a very open mind P.S. For the record, while I have DJ'd a set here or there, I'm by no means a working Swing DJ, so I completely understand if the moderators find it appropriate...
