I've been at a dance with a single cd player and the resulting long pauses, it sucked the life from the room. Actually, I started DJing for dancers on a setup like that.. it was a huge improvement to have stuff already cued up. Just because a song starts doesn't mean people have to stop talking. I'm...

I just picked up a used thinkpad t43 on ebay with a year and a half of warranty left. I love it. 1400x1050 is nice, and it's got a little led light on top of the lcd for lighting the keyboard in the dark. I'm running ubuntu and using mixxx. It gets a little choppy feeling when it's playing one song ...

It would be tiring, it's just a lot more work for every song.. finding the track isn't really an issue after you've been doing it for a little while.. but really, it's just a more mechanical process. I have enough records (6 or 7 feet?), but carrying enough of them for 4 straight hours would suck.. ...

it's sort of generally harsh and peaky in the high midrange and doesn't have any lows at all.. All the stuff I have under Chick Webb's name is recorded/remastered fine, it's that I shy away from music I dig on that Ella disc cuz it's *so* harsh.. I'll just listen around a little to find something el...

Early Ella, nicely remastered...?
Anybody have recommendations for a nicely remastered set of Ella's recordings with Chick Webb? I've had this one forever: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=10:8zkku3lhan4k ..and I'd always assumed that they were just especially bad recordings in the first place.. but I was ...

I totally agree with the Pioneer or Denon suggestion. People have been asking me lately what to get, and I'm really bummed that Denon stopped selling the DN-1800.. but on the other hand, the 4000 costs the same as I paid for my 1800 and is way cooler. I've always thought of the cheap stuff as a litt...

I used to use a cheap behringer compressor for a while to do the same kinda thing.. just on the fly, rather than re-mastering.. With a crappy PA, I think compression helped in doing exactly what you're talking about - bringing up the quiet rhythm section and mellowing out the harsh mids and highs.. ...

yeah - if you're not moving it around, you're prolly good to go with the stanton st100, but it doesn't seem particularly rugged. I've had a numark ttx1 for few years, and I think it's solidness is worth the extra price over the stanton. the other one to check out for spdif output is denon's - I thin...
