I've been at a dance with a single cd player and the resulting long pauses, it sucked the life from the room. Actually, I started DJing for dancers on a setup like that.. it was a huge improvement to have stuff already cued up. Just because a song starts doesn't mean people have to stop talking. I'm...

I kept wishing I could resize the window.. and I would move things around too.. it would be interesting to make a "partner dance dj" skin for it that didn't have any of the flanger & beatmatching stuff, and used that space to get the whole window width for the playlist stuff. The waveform is kind of...

...swing bands have been playing syrupy ballads for years too, should we start djing them?

bands can get away with both ballads and 30 second-> minute pauses because they're a band.

Try either one as a dj, and see how it goes.

hey, good idea. I used renice. (I guess nice runs a command, renice takes a pid, in ubuntu at least.) ..that was enough so that if I slide the crossfader while loading a track it doesn't get all unresponsive. I'm thinking about editing my local source to make "next" or maybe "ping" start the other p...

I just picked up a used thinkpad t43 on ebay with a year and a half of warranty left. I love it. 1400x1050 is nice, and it's got a little led light on top of the lcd for lighting the keyboard in the dark. I'm running ubuntu and using mixxx. It gets a little choppy feeling when it's playing one song ...

Isn't that the point of the whole thing, not just the dj, but the whole venue, to manufacture an environment conducive to dancing?

It would be tiring, it's just a lot more work for every song.. finding the track isn't really an issue after you've been doing it for a little while.. but really, it's just a more mechanical process. I have enough records (6 or 7 feet?), but carrying enough of them for 4 straight hours would suck.. ...

it's sort of generally harsh and peaky in the high midrange and doesn't have any lows at all.. All the stuff I have under Chick Webb's name is recorded/remastered fine, it's that I shy away from music I dig on that Ella disc cuz it's *so* harsh.. I'll just listen around a little to find something el...

Early Ella, nicely remastered...?

Anybody have recommendations for a nicely remastered set of Ella's recordings with Chick Webb? I've had this one forever: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=10:8zkku3lhan4k ..and I'd always assumed that they were just especially bad recordings in the first place.. but I was listenin...

I totally agree with the Pioneer or Denon suggestion. People have been asking me lately what to get, and I'm really bummed that Denon stopped selling the DN-1800.. but on the other hand, the 4000 costs the same as I paid for my 1800 and is way cooler. I've always thought of the cheap stuff as a litt...

BOB - It's Pamama Francis and The Savoy Sultans - Everything Swings - Viper's Nest - 1996. Other than three poorly recorded live discs, that's the worst stuff you can find by the group.. "Vol 1" "Vol 2" and "Gettin' in the Groove" are all good, as is the George Kelly led album with the same group, ...

I used to use a cheap behringer compressor for a while to do the same kinda thing.. just on the fly, rather than re-mastering.. With a crappy PA, I think compression helped in doing exactly what you're talking about - bringing up the quiet rhythm section and mellowing out the harsh mids and highs.. ...

yeah - if you're not moving it around, you're prolly good to go with the stanton st100, but it doesn't seem particularly rugged. I've had a numark ttx1 for few years, and I think it's solidness is worth the extra price over the stanton. the other one to check out for spdif output is denon's - I thin...
