But the senior Severinsen, a gifted amateur violinist, urged him to study the violin. The younger Sever...

As everyone knows 1 yard = 216 songs.

Of course if I were to get my semi-annual call to DJ, I'd only have about 12 yards available that I know well enough and have BPM'ed

Not that I don't know my collection - I mean the rest is mostly jazz not suitable for dancing.

I realize yard is not a universal measuere of length, but I picked it in honor of footbal (American football) starting up. A football field is an easy visualization for me.

How big a monitor do YOU need?

iTunes can list 45 songs on my 7.5 inch tall laptop display. To view my entire iTunes library as a single page at that same resolution, my display would need to be 124 yards tall!

I have an old EPSON Perfection 2400 scanner. Must be about 10-15 years old. I store images as .jpg files It allows me to do a preview scan and then select the scan area to match the actual size of the page. So I usually preview/size on the first scan of each new liner. I found some free shareware th...

Just confirmed: indeed awesome on an iPad!

But still no control of photo sort order on iPod or iPad. That makes it not easy to find sometimes. Photos always display by date added/modified. My system works best alphabetical. I guess most people don't care what order their photos come up.

James P. Johnson: Pianist/Dancer

Found in the liner notes of "Snowy Morning Blues, The Original Decca Recordings" (1930-44), referring to his contemporary Willie "The Lion" Smith's and other musicians dancing abilities: "All of us used to be proud of our dancing...it made for attitude and stance when you wa...

If anyone uses Matlab (I know we have many engineers and scientists here!), here is an m-file that I wrote to calculate bpm. I can keep this little window open and easily time phrases (example below uses 16 beats, which I found works best for me). Only needs two taps to start and stop the timer. I f...

Duke Heitger (great trumpeter, best known with Squirrel Nut Zippers) has a CD or two with a medium sized combo that is excellent. The one I own is Rhythm Is Our Business. In the Twin Cities we have the Southside Aces. Jim Cullum Jazz Band (feat. on radio Riverwalk program) John Sheridan Kermit Ruffins

F-L completed! Didn't know I had so much Herman and Kenton. Gotta love that brass... Also just found out that iTunes uses the art for track 1 for the album art (in terms of the browsers and such), but I can put the rest of the pages in as added art for each track. Now if I listen to any track ...
