Hi Jesse--A slight correction: the Wynton Marsalis album is a compilation of past material. I knew I recognized that clip of KPS--it's on the album Mr. Jelly Lord, along with a bunch of other material with a similar feel.

Great show as always.

New music 2010

Year-end retrospective time. What other new albums came out in 2010? By new I mean that the music was recorded recently (not that it was (re)issued recently but recorded long ago). Here's what I've got so far: Gordon Webster - Live in Philadelphia Meschiya Lake & the Little Big Horns - Lucky Dev...

I just caught Andy Schumm with some local Chicago musicians. He's top notch. He and the others laid down the best night of dance music I'd heard in probably a year. More on my blog . And Michael Steinman also has a glowing assessment over on his blog . I've heard Josh Duffee with a couple of differe...

Here are the easy ones: 1. The tune is "Blue Lou" but I don't think it's Goodman 2. "Savoy" - Lucky Millinder 3. "Softly as in a Morning Sunrise" - Artie Shaw (much faster than usual) 4. "Undecided" not sure of the artist 5. "Lindyhopper's Delight" -...

I've used a Samsung NC-10 for the past year, running JRiver Media Center (or occasionally iTunes+WinAmp), and have been quite happy with it. Details and more specs here.

Are you familiar with this album? Panama Francis & his Savoy Sultans playing modern arrangements of many of the original Savoy Sultans tunes.

Finally, it seems like there might be something those of us outside the U.K. who don't have an iPhone (BlackBerry, etc.) can use. Tunatic Probably light years behind, but hey, at least it's a start. Anyone else played with tunatic? So far it is batting about .150 for my iTunes collection, and .000 ...

Billie Holiday discography

I'd like to confirm the personnel, esp. the trumpet and saxaphone, from the track " Life Begins When You're in Love " by Billie Holiday with Teddy Wilson & Orchestra. Does anyone have liner notes from Lady Day: The Master Takes and Singles or some other source for this information? Unf...

In our scene, DJ compensation ranges from nothing (not even a thank you), to $20 plus free admission for a guest for DJing a two-hour set, to $50 or so for a 3 hour set.

Ditto on the live album aspect of this album. It gives the album a great energy, which makes me really eager to DJ these tracks at a dance. I also really appreciate the wide range of selections--the band plays fresh arrangements of tunes from 1927 all the way through the 1960's. Bravo Solomon! (More...
