Re: Cable management for the OCD DJ
There are no wireless based MIDI controllers that I have seen on the market. That you've seen, maybe, but that's because you haven't looked, not because they're not there. :) Googlification trivially yields, for instance: True. I did only check Native Instruments, Pioneer, Akai, Numark, Denon, Behr...

Re: Cable management for the OCD DJ
nice ideas, the quicker everything is wireless the better. It will be a VERY long time until wireless takes over the wires inside a DJ booth. If nothing else, there will be a power supply running to the laptop and mixer and even more to the remainder of the PA system. While I can run on a laptop ba...

Re: Where do you get your music?
I purchase my music. That is the #1 best way to build a collection. I like amazon's mp3 service over iTunes. Anything you purchase is stored in their cloud "indefinitely." You can sync multiple computers and mobile devices to that cloud. Some CDs that you purchase have "AutoRip" and will be uploaded...

Re: MacBook Air 13'' for DJing?
[*]Will a display resolution of 1440x900 be sufficent for Traktor LE? That's the resolution that I use (on a 15" screen  ) and it is fine for 2 decks. 4 deck layouts get a bit cramped. You can switch in and out of a "full screen" file browser, and that makes a HUGE difference (for me). [*]I'v...

Re: MacBook Air 13'' for DJing?
I'm old. I need bigger text and more screen space than a 13" laptop provides.SiMonster wrote:Does anybody have experiences with this device for DJing? Is a 13'' enough in your opinion?
Thanks for your toughts and ideas!

Aside from that, you should be good.

Cable management for the OCD DJ
Just in case you hate having to mess with a nest of cables when you setup in the booth.... I have a custom snake that connects the laptop, controller, soundcard...but the box is a nice upgrade. The Sterlite container is really prone to cracking when broken, so round holes are better. Or, a slightly ...

DJ Philosophy - Ean Golden Interview
I have been following Ean Golden for several years now. I really appreciate his thoughtful approach to his role in the DJ booth. His thoughts on the role of the DJ, and the right (and wrong) way to incorporate technology into his performance are certainly worth considering. His style is not for ever...

One step past "Music Theory"
Write Like Mozart: An Introduction to Classical Music Composition This is a Coursera class on music composition. Coursera classes are free, VERY good, and easy to follow online. I have taken several on Electronic Music Production. If you want to take a step past "Music Theory for Dummies," this woul...

Re: How to be a better Swing DJ
The "philosophy" discussion was a reasonable place for beginners to start. While I understand that there are a great many exceptions to what was presented...overall it was a reasonable foundation upon which to build. The entire "technical" discussion made me physically wince. It was "close" but in t...

Wireless mics...may need to change....again.
In 2009 & 2010 I spent almost $1700 on new wireless mics to get out of the 700MHz band. It's like deja vu all over again.

This is awesome. I wonder how long until there are commercial services, or "home units" that will be able to do something similar with your collection of vinyl.

When I was CD based....and a song BOMBED.... I would stop the song...just hit "pause". Take the CD out of the tray and throw (a different, probably blank CD....because my CDs were burned in pairs with 20-ish songs on them each) onto the floor. I'd get on the mic and tell the dancers to get the bad s...

One other editor to try is this: http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ Before I switched to Media Monkey, this was my tag editor of choice. It was really fast, and had a nice "batch" editing function. The editor understood regular expressions for tag matching. The new version supports full unicode character sets...

The most likely reason for the "symbols" in the tag is character set. iTunes has a well known issue with the Comments field. iTunes does it "wrong" (according to the ID3 standard), but they are common enough for their way to be another kind of "standard." As a test....in iTunes, right click on a son...

Traktor is more of a DJ'ing program, not a "music collection management" program. Both iTunes and Media Monkey are more about "collection management" than DJ'ing. iTunes does not support ID3 tags in a "standard" (or perhaps "portable") way. This is unfortunate, but the reality of what is going on. W...
