To be on the safe side as far as compatibility with all CD players goes: 1. ALWAYS record your mixes in CD AUDIO format (file extension "CDA" for all tracks). Although some CD players can handle data CDs containing MP3 files, that's not what they're really designed for. Sometimes when you ...

In case there is anyone here who does not already know, Bob Clampett (creator of this "Beany and Cecil" cartoon) played a major role in the creation of the classic Warner Brothers cartoons in the 1930's-'40s and then another major role in the emergence of childrens' television in the 1950'...

I see far more refereces to [Jeep Jockey Jump] [by Swing "dj's"] than I do to ITM. That's...because... we have a knack for knowing what makes almost the whole room's worth of lindy hoppers dance excitedly (JJJ) and what doesn't (ITM). If you want to hear a more even balance of references ...

This one stumped me. All I can tell is that it's probably from the late 1940's - early 1950's era when Louis Jordan and Buddy Johnson were playing a lot of jump bluesy stuff like this. Hope this narrows your search down just a bit.

*giggle* Thanks for sticking up for me, Dave. However, I don't know nearly as much about any artist's repertoire--especially an artist whose repertoire I mostly consider "listening music" rather than "DJing music"--as a record collector does. Yeah, but I think it was you who onc...

I doubt that...much.

And if she ever wants to talk Glenn Miller, she knows where to find me....or where to avoid me.
No comment. Katie and I (and my son Aaron) have been friends for years.

I wouldn't call GM's "In the Mood" unspinable. But I would call it overplayed. It's not that it doesn't have it's moments. But everybody has heard it again and again and again to the point where it has become the Glenn Miller cliche and is a major source of his underrating in swingdance ci...

A last minute "summit meeting" between Sound Exchange and representatives of the Internet broadcast industry resulted in a truce that so far has kept Internet radio alive. But this is only a truce, not a long-term agreement and the politics continue. To keep up with all this, go to Radio &...

Am I correct in assuming the 7" singles are 45rpm records with the big hole in the middle? Anyway ... The vinyl revival has been going on for years. DJs at clubs playing techno/goth music have a particular fondness for it because vinyl format gives them the ability to do "scratching" ...

I play a fair amount of Glenn Miller at my gigs and think the problem with "In the Mood" is that there is SO much better stuff he did, even during the early period prior to his Air Force Band era. It's not a bad song per se (although it's almost an exact copy of "Tar Paper Stomp"...

I agree that using a graphic equalizer to deal with 60 cycle hum is a solution only for the most desparate of circumstances ... where the recording you are using itself is damanged, and the equipment you are using is not causing the problem. If the equipment is causing 60 cycle hum you just have to ...

I usually plan my sets out in advance and even burn mixes to CD. (I also bring along my entire collection so I can make course corrections if things aren't working as planned.) In Madison, aside from "does this tune swing?" considerations my sequence is often based on the local tempo prefe...
