With regards to local vs. national DJ's at an exchange, here's my view: I generally take the exchanges as an opportunity for people to get a sampling of the local scene. You come to the Chicago exchange (November 7 - 9, 2003 :) ) to experience Chicago right? Does someone from New York really come to...

Re: exchange dj'ing
one of the key and often overlooked aspects of all of this discussion is attitude (good or bad). i have been to exchanges where i thought some of the dj'ing was subpar, but never felt the need to post my opinions publicly. If the entire event was dj'ed poorly, i think it is appropriate to give your...

I can't even remember the last time I played offa CD's. I think it maya been a year ago at the first St. Louis Lindy Blues Exchange. Here's what's in what used to be my traveling case. Many people not just a few. It was early in the after hours night at hot hou...

As has been pointed out previously (but highly bears repeating) carting all your originals around is just BEGGING for a disaster. It took me twice to learn this. My preferred system was a hard-sided carrying case with the slimline plastic CD cases. (The ones that are half the thickness of the ones t...

As I think about it the extreme anti-wade in the water might be a Chicago thing. Not everyone of course, but enough to make it a extremly poor choice to play. There are other songs like this too. For example Nighttrain while not overplayed anymore several main people in the Chicago scene hate this ...
