Re: The iPad DJ

I use the ipad for outdoor and spontaneous dances . Its light and easy to carry around with you . I also keep it as a backup as It has the advantage of being able to switch on immediately when something goes wrong and you dont need a power supply . As your library grows you would still need your com...

Re: DJ Controllers

As Swing Djs we need to give a small pause between songs so people can find a new dance partner so we dont really need fancy controllers . They are nice but not necessary . I find it easier to control things from the mixer ( usually most venues use one) with basic equaliser functions being sufficien...

Re: R.I.P. BB King

I find his very early records are great for dancing Lindy Hop and they signal the introduction of the guitar as a replacement for the saxophone. His singing is also great on these tracks. I regularly play "She's Dynamite " , "Let's do the boogie" from the 1949-52 Chronological Cl...

Re: Harlem 2015 JB and Tatiana

Thanks Jesse An amazing tune. I will look for it too . I have several albums of the live radio and the energy is always so much higher than in the studio recordings. I can't wait for the Bill Savory collection to come out ( if it ever does - In the US you have stretched copyright beyond reason ) Phi...

Re: Cable management for the OCD DJ

The main problem with wireless for audio signal is that even if it cuts out for a very short time it will affect the gig. Wireless transmission to speakers is more common but usually only for those where one of many speakers would lose connection at one time so it could be acceptable. The main reaso...

Re: CDs vs downloads

Its nice to support the bands by purchasing their CDs. If you are djing often there is a big risk of damaging the cd's . The CDs are safe at home with their contents added to the music library. Also I live in a city where everyone uses public transport so its not convenient to carry so many CDs . I ...

Re: MacBook Air 13'' for DJing?

I am DJing off Macbook Air 13" and it works really well. I strongly suggest an external hard drive for your music. ( you simply put your itunes library onto the external drive). I also have Audio Pro 2 works well with it. That will use your 2 usb ports. I have just started to use Pro Djay for M...

Re: What was your worst djing experience?

Thats scary !! It happened to me too in Herrang at 230am in the Dansbanan. Itunes froze completely (but it still played the song out) . My trusty Ipad (1st version) came to the rescue !!. Since upgrading to Itunes 11.1 I have had no more problems with Itunes. Having a fully charged backup player is ...

Re: Duke Ellington - It Don't Mean a Thing - live 4-28-45

Ok this is how I did it on my mac. I downloaded Audacity and also a program for it that loops the sound output back called Soundflower. You play the file and it records the whole radio program, You can then cut it up with audacity into various parts into MP3 or better . The sound quality is not the ...

Re: mosaic sets

I beg to disagree each type of song has its place. As a dancer you can follow and interpret the singing even more than an instrument as you listen to what they are singing about . Some dancers tell me that they sometimes prefer sung tunes to purely instrumentals as they can relate more easily to the...
