As far as the verison of St. James Infirmary I don't remember it well enough, but you could try emailing Steven and Virginie and asking them. info@stevenandvirginie.com Versions I like are on Henry Red Allen's "World on a String" and Roy Eldridge's "Little Jazz and the Jimmy Ryan All...

The other problem about Gene Harris is that it is frustrating from a dancing perspective: and not in the groove/vintage way, Reuben before you start typing away. Some albums can have nothing for dancing, while some others have just one gem, but that gem is so damn good that it makes the album worth...

Note to self and words of note for others: Don't forget to plug in your laptop while DJing. :-) The battery indicator on my tibook is acting up, and OSX gave no warning before shutting me down last night in the middle of Alberta Hunter's most excellent rendition of The Darktown Strutters Ball. Cue a...

word of warning for OSX Mac users.. I haven't been able to get my Indigo card to work since I upgraded to Panther/10.3. Emails to Echo's support department have been answered less than helpfully.

Evidently it "should just work".. YMMV.

A DJ doesn't have a right to force people to choose between having a good time at a dance and walking out because a song insults them personally. In the realm of sexually suggestive songs, I feel that there's nothing wrong with playing my current novelty favourite, Clarence Carter's "Strokin'&q...

The "Good News" box set is an interesting collection of early recording history / Gospel. I thoroughly enjoy listening to it, but it's not very useful for DJing. The Sister Rosette Thorpe set is more accessible, methinks.

My favourite Proper box set so far has been Illinois Jacquet.

I have come to enjoy opening, closing, or being in the middle of a night.. but I find the most enjoyable set depends on the nature of the venue. At exchanges, I love closing out the latenight because they're generally more about groove, blues, and being silly.. so anything goes. Closing out a weekly...
