Free workshops with Nathalie & Yuval, March 6 & 7

Yep, you read it right - if you can give Nathalie & Yuval a ride from NYC to Vermont this Friday, March 5, and bring them back to NY on Sunday, you'll receive a weekend full of free workshops with them. Plus, we'll put you up for the weekend, feed you occassionally, and you'll have a guest pass ...

This is easy. I ask my wife to start the next song. Or if I'm using my own equipment the next song on the other CD starts automatically anyway. If I really need more time, I use a mix CD for the song that I leave on that has another appropriate song following it and let the auto-start function cue a...

i'm not sure i get the lindy-bal wcs-hustle analogy. They're both sort of "I also like..." dances. Another example: Argentine Tango dancers "also like Salsa". That's not to say that Hustle, Balboa and Salsa are only second rate dances (except, of course, in the case of Hustle :w...

Hustle: the Westie's Bal

I have come to the conclusion that Hustle is to Westies like Balboa is to Lindy Hoppers. And since my local scene is populated by about 1/3 Westies, I am getting complaints at my dances that I don't play (enough) Hustle. (I actually found a few Hustle tunes on some Westie comps in my collection.) Ho...

Like others here, I think of 9:20 Special anytime I want to ratchet things up. But aside from that, here's a few of my favs (attempting to avoid "hardcore vintage straight big band music")... Gene Connors, Coming Home 172 ("Coming Home" is a "one song wonder" CD) Nat Ki...

It's time for a "Silly Chat" forum!

I know there are a lot of DJs on this board who like to use it to socialize and chat about silly things. But I for one could not be less interested in having my mailbox get filled up with discussions about boobs and teenaged girls. I already raised a teenage girl and put her through college and saw ...

oops, i see my first post was a little confusing. I meant count to your 5th cd, track 5. Then count 5 more cd's in to your 10th cd track 5, 15th track 5, 20th, and 25th, cd. Uh, in that case... 1. Three Buckets of Jive, Illinois Jacquet 2. Can I get to the Funk, Bluezeum (reached my westie compilat...

Hmmm, Pulling from my mini-case of compilations that travels everywhere with me in my shoe bag just in case I am asked to do a short set, the fifth CD is labeled "Instrumental Swing 1". Starting with the 5th cut the set would be... 1. Three Buckets of Jive, Illinois Jacquet 2. Smooth Saili...

Hmmm, I've been away for a while so I don't know what features Jesse has programmed into this board. Is there a file upload area? I made an Excel template a few years ago that I use to copy and paste the song listings from iMusic into a play list for printing nice little square inserts that fit into...

Before posting here I had to go back and listen to a few Glenn Miller tunes to remind myself afresh of how much I like some of his stuff. Now I can breathe a big refreshing "ahhh" and start my day by posting here. Squirrel Nut Zippers! I leave them out. I actually bought their CD a century...

Dave, I use Madonna's "Music" for West Coast swing. It's 120 BPM. "Get the Party Started" is another good example of high energy, slow tempo. It 130 BPM nobody's breaking a sweat, but if they like the music they're having a good time. Rayned, What are some good examples of fast-t...

I have not been able to find danceable 80's+ music in that fast of a tempo range. You might have to move back to the 50's to find good popular songs that are 170+. But even then much of it is slower but just feels faster because of its energy. There are some 1990s+ songs that work well for fast temp...
