Just so you all know. . . Adventures in Jazzland is probably my favorite modern Traditional Jazz album released in the past few years. I've spent lots of time researching, actively seeking out and dancing to Trad Jazz groups and Jeff's is one of the best. Sure bands like the Titan Hot Seven's and th...

Never heard of him. But that might be an American thing; I hadn't heard of Ricky Martin, either, despite his world-wide popularity before he breached the American market. :-) I can't wait for his musical turnaround, either: how about, "Ricky does Duke," in stores and movie theaters this f...

I don't know if Jeff Healey's music was ever popular in the states but, here in Canada, he has always been very popular. I absolutely love the change of directions Jeff has made with his music. Having to put up with barf song like, "Angel Eyes" on the top 40 radio for years had me totally ...

Ham's music was awesome. Walking up to the Century and hearing the music outside felt like various descriptions of the Savoy. My only suggestion would be to play a little more mid-tempo stuff when the room is that crowded. I was talking to Ham about his music awhile ago and I remember him saying so...

Yeah I had a radio show for 3 years while at University. For the first year I did a indie rock show and played a bunch of cool underground and indie Canadian stuff. Then for two years I did a Monty Python show. Because it was a specialty show I could get away with alot of crazy stuff and skip the Ca...

I cannot begin to describe the awesome-ness of Charlie Barnet. His music's through the roof. If you want an amazing read try: Those Swinging Years: The Autobiography of Charlie Barnet Author: Charlie Barnet, Stanley Dance I've read many dozens of autobiographies on Big Band Leaders and this one is t...

My nieces go nutty over Slim and Slam. Over the holidays "Jump Session" and "Chicken Rhythm" were especially big hits with the kiddies. (Both are under 5 years old.)

On a non-swing related tangent try playing some They Might be Giants. They always go over big with the little ones.

I have asked myself the question before, is it not hypocritical to criticize somebody for being is overly harsh to his fellow DJ? The answer is that I am bit hypocritical in that regard. I have no problem admitting to acting hypocritical sometimes. From my experience, just about every human is hypo...

My current JRM favourites are both from the Chronogical classis series. I've got 1928-29 and 29-30 and they both rock. Many of the recordings are done with various orchestras. I especially love many of the tracks he does with his Hot Peppers. Both C.D's are very good for you lovers of early big band...

I only wish I had access to the Vancouver Public Library, they got some stuff I've been hunting for everywhere and have been yet to find except from there. Harrison Yeah I finished plundering and pilaging the VPL a few months ago. This includes all their jazz and blues selections as well as the box...

Not to mention you can listen to a lot of stuff you wouldn't have found otherwise; and you can listen to the entire CD; and that there are a lot of CDs out there that aren't available on the Internet anymore. Not to mention stuff you didn't know even existed. I've found stuff that doesn't come up o...
