Actually, I've just found I can now download Amazon MP3s here in the UK - it might be worth checking with Amazon. Really? I tried and still got this: We are sorry... We could not process your order. The sale of MP3 Downloads is currently available only to US customers located in the 48 contiguous s...

I'm not surprised. Anyone noticed the striking similarity between the material available on Proper and Chronological Classics releases? I strongly suspect that Proper sets are really Chrono Classics collections with the lame ballads removed, loads of noise reduction added, new artwork and better lin...

I think you're thinking about Who Said Shorty Wasn't Coming Back?, which is sort of Shorty Part 2, also by Lucky Millinder. It's on the Chronological Classics 1947-1950.

The biggest little band in the land
I'm looking for some John Kirby Sextet. Any recommendations? This looks like a good selection, but I'm not crazy about the sound quality of the Definitive CDs I have.

Glenn and the boys get everyone 'In The Mood' in This Film Clip Quite impressive showmanship - you can tell that Miller was a huge fan of the Lunceford band . By the way, that ITM clip is from Sun Valley Serenade - dreadful movie but well worth having just for the Nicholas Brothers in Chattanooga C...

IBTSTL was all Ellington. The lyricist, Don George, brought it to James who recorded it before Ellington could (Ellington was with Victor, which hadn't yet come to terms with AFM.) IIRC, both Columbia (James' label) and Victor (Ellington's label) both signed agreements with the AFM in the middle of...

As well as being a star trumpeter and long-time bandleader, he wrote a lot of songs, including: I'm Beginning To See The Light One O'Clock Jump Peckin' Two O'Clock Jump I don't think HJ really wrote any of those songs. He might have put his name on them to get a piece of the royalties (a common pra...
