(note: Ipod does not support playlists at all afaik) If you're playing a song, however, and you want to search through and find the next song to play, ...

I've only had it for a month, I'll admit, but I listen to it all day at work every day (40h/wk) and have had no troubles.

Dana, a couple of questions: 1. Do you laptop dj using it? 2. Can you pick which filesystem goes on it? (Like my Maxtor) 3. I care about DRM! Yay! 4. How many hours do you have on it? 5. Have you ever had a glitch or hiccough using it? 7. I assume it will handle VBR MP3s? I think all new ones do do...

I just got a 20G iRiver ( http://www.iriveramerica.com ) which also comes in 40G. They're price-equivalent to the iPod, but better because: - Longer battery life (11-16 hr) - Firmware upgradeable - Plays tons of codecs, not just AAC/MP3 - No DRM (for those of us who care) - No iTunes, just drag-and-...

The Time Life stuff is pretty good but Jesse's comments are bang-on. I have maybe 5-6 of them from the 'net. Here are some google caches of the track listings, as they're gone from the site: One , Two If you can read german, you can find more listings by googling "time life swing era" d.

I just found 7 cds of mp3s (burnt as data, so ~50 albums) of stuff I archived a long time ago. Tons of Ella, Dinah, Fletcher Henderson and so on.. I can't wait to dig in!

You know, I had a weird experience like this as well. I had a bunch of good mp3s that I burnt as audio and used for DJing. They were great. I burnt them as data to keep them as a backup, but now when I transfer them to my new computer from the data cds, they sound like they've been ripped at 62kbit ...

I'd rather do carolina shag myself. I never understood the concept of shoe-horning a musical genre into a dance, which seems to me to be the exact opposite of how it should be. I guess I'm agenda-ridden. Hm.. as usual, I'll say that if the song makes people want to dance, and they get up and dance ...

Another great set: the 3-CD "Okeh's Rhythm and Blues Story, 1949-57." Also, a 2-CD "Jumpin Like Mad" compilation on Capitol. If I could find that Capitol set, I'd be a happy girl. The OKeh set is good too. My scene was started during the Neo era and they spend a lot of time danc...

CDDB ... does some sort of checksum on the CD or tracks to uniquely identify it. Just the CD, as far as I can tell. Of course, anyone who wants to can submit a new CD to CDDB or its generic clones - we added my boyfriend's brother's band last week. So if you were really keen, you could add the trac...
