Nope, The only thing I did with that song was to press play, many, many times. The song is how it is off the CD. Wacky. I have the RCA/Bluebird comp, "1949: Shoutin' Blues" which has a much faster (155 bpm) version which sounds nearly identical except for the tempo. clip . Rayned, as usua...

Writing it

Did some research this past weekend, which mostly involved making my mother, who is an AP reporter, do some research: According to the 2006 AP Style Guide entry for "disc jockey," the most correct term is "deejay," as opposed to "DJ". The term "DJ" is acceptab...

...most jazz post 1950 wasn't really designed for dancing at all. Right. Paul (Albert System) had some choice words recently for the whole "jazz-is-art-not-pop-and-you-will-sit-and-pay-attention" attitude that got started in the '50s. I'm just hazarding a guess that the phenomenon of DJ-e...

Neither was anything recorded before say...1996 or so.
Do you really think that?

However, it wasn't designed to be played by deejays at swing dances, it was designed to be a historical document. Slightly off the beam here, but I doubt that it was designed as an "historical document". Dean has too much respect for the music as living, breathing entity to ever relegate ...

So there is npthing 'danceable' on a MMR CD? This is the band that people keep recommending to other people instead of neo-swing junk. So far, I've played "Deep Elm," "Fight That Thing," "Shake That Thing," "Charleston," and "Ain't That Too Bad." fo...

apparently there are two versions by Basie and one is slower. I'm not sure if it was slowed down or if it was just played slower. You can get both on the Complete American Victor set. Yep. This is the one I'm thinking of though (I have the album). From the sound clip, it actually worked okay slowed...

It's a good CD, especially if you're interested in the evolution of hot music before it became "swing." However, it wasn't designed to be played by deejays at swing dances, it was designed to be a historical document.

It's the Count Basie version from 1948 with Taps Miller singing, only slowed waaaaaay down. Ugh.

I bought an Indigo DJ last year and it fried itself the second time I used it in my mac. I went for the Griffin iMic (much cheaper anyway) and have been happy since.

I haven't seen as many bus-powered firewire drives as usb. It'll be easier to find a usb one, and I've *never* had a conflict with mine, so I'm not sure what that's about. USB is more available than Firewire on computers too... Not conflict with iTunes but with some DJ software packages. For exampl...

iTunes 7 Multiple Libraries + External Drive

Between work stuff and 40Gb of music my 80Gb Powerbook drive is about full, so I'm looking to offload my deejaying collection to an external drive and just keep some toolin' around music on my main drive. The recent iTunes release has support for multiple libraries. Has anyone tried this with an ext...

When did the disc jockey become part of the artistic process? 1973 - Jamaican-born DJ Kool Herc, widely regarded as the "godfather of hip hop culture", performs at block parties in his Bronx neighborhood and develops a technique of mixing back and forth between two identical records to ex...

Any hints where I might find the Ray Charles "Booty Butt"? When I type that into Amazon, I get Ray Charles & Betty Carter. Oh, and Buttcracker Suite turns into Nutcracker Suite. Who knew that searches could self-censor? Booty Butt was originally released on the LP "My Kind Of Jaz...
