I thought Nate suggested a song review database, not an album review database. Even if it were organized by album...I think song reviews would be a lot more helpful considering we've already got a lot of album reviews out there.

My two cents, even though they're a little outdated (it's been a while since I've spent more than 2 weeks there, but I do talk about it with friends), is that KC already has what I think most people would call a "groove" lindy scene. And that's why the lindy and east coast scenes are so di...

Good point, Greg:

Kenny--are you asking how to convert people to lindy or how to make lindy hoppers & east coasters happy while at the same venue?

I have to second Yak0v's recommendation.

The three best purchases I've made in my swing life, if not because of their own awesomeness then because of the way they affected my future are:
-My sueded shoes
-This box set
-A trip to Herrang Dance Camp

So...now that people have had the chance to listen to it...how's the sound quality? I've already got, proportionally to the size of my binder, a lot of Ellington. If I'm going to be getting hundreds of so-so-quality yet swinging tunes, I think for now I'll stick with the ones I've got. However, if i...

What do people think of this CD?

You can listen to previews of the whole thing in the ITunes store...haven't looked to see where else.

I like it, but is it one of those things where I could save myself some money and get equally good recordings of the same songs in a box set?

Actually, I feel like I'm pretty picky already about what I want to play...I just haven't had the time or money to build my collection. But I remember telling myself what kind of stuff I'd play if I ever got in charge of the stereo, and that's what I've done.

There needs to be a lot more "props" given in this scene, not just DJs but alos dancers and instructors. Thats a whole other subject though. It is, so I hope I don't hijack by replying, but I thought it was neat that you taught me some Charlestoney/jazz thing (which I've long since forgot...

Nate Dogg wrote:Threads serve this purpose somewhat. But, I am thinking about a master database of all the songs, that allow all the DJs to contribute their opinions.
In other words, Allmusic.org without outsider opinions?

One of my favorite dance experiences was at an outdoor dance at the Austin Exchange a few years ago. Adrianna from Denver was DJing (kick ass DJ by the way!). She didn't have her books with her, so I lent her mine. We both have similar tastes, but she played a totally different set than I would hav...

"Sometimes." I will more often dance to a genre I don't like than a song I don't like. More likely to seek out a partner to mediocre songs within my preferred genre than fantastic songs within another, but I'll probably look for someone I want to dance with with during either kind just to ...
