I bought one! An HP dv1420us from another swing DJ who was within days of selling it to a pawn shop instead. Probably not going to last a long time (it's a personal model, not business), but at $50, I'll take "long enough to completely get my music tagged for DJing and do a few gigs successfull...

Hey, go me for putting my question as the last of a page. To be honest...a faster/different processor probably won't make much difference. Vista is the notable exception because it is a pig that needs a lot of RAM. If you are concerned about performance, the one thing I would recommend is cho...

Laptop Processors (PCs)

Okay, jumping into the long thread here...but I promise I did a post-search on the word "processor" and didn't find an answer to my question! It has been a long time since I've looked into computer requirements, and although the internet is full of component reviews, they're not exactly ge...

Question--do you guys have a plan about whose money covers buying rights to issue a recording of non-public-domain songs or arrangements? I think that's one reason more live tracks aren't sold online. Bootleg demos sold at concerts? Probably not gonna get caught. But published on the internet? Likel...

How annoying. Caiman is selling 1933-1936 as a CD through foreign Amazon Marketplaces, but the U.S. Amazon has NO listing of that CD for them to market it under.

Has anyone else seen Amazon pull down CD listings once they offer the tracks as MP3s?

Trev,
When you do go complete...
mind letting us know what albums and what individual tracks you bought to make it thus? :-D
It doesn't sound like a bad idea!

Mr. E - here's one thing to know. If you book a musicality class involving musicians--it's unlikely you'll have a thorough idea what the course material will end up being. Unless you've already been involved in lots of these classes. "Musicians who play for dancers - Dance teacher - Shake hands...

Ironically, Jonathan, only one of my musicality classes has included such material. So I'm like, "Dude--can't I have another one of those?" ;-)

There are sites where people uploaded Chronogical Classics CDs at anything above 96kbps with scanned booklets?

Pirates bothered with that label?

Seriously?

Looks like a small community event thrown for a couple of regional audiences (high schools, etc.) that I wouldn't travel to see.

But bless their hearts, I'm glad they did it...means they love Jimmie Lunceford music as much as I do!

It's interesting when I talk to a few of my friends that feel that we should be teaching people to foxtrot or do some sort of two step basic at a beginner level. I don't mean to misinterpret their opinions, but I think the idea is that much of the hot dance music of the past had people dancing pre-...

I have the same problem with modern swing - a shortage of good mid-tempo music. Really? As long as it's towards the "groovy" side of the spectrum, I've found no shortage of "good" mid-tempo music. (If by good, you just mean well-made. It isn't the right kind of energy to make me...

Yup. It's the eternal problem / quest of the old-school swing DJ.
