Maybe you should try to seek out a Rufus Hartley album. He was a jazz player who played bagpipes. Some of it was interesting.

My step-father used to embellish the truth quite often. His father was a band leader, church organist and piano coach in the 1930's and 1940's in Baltimore and apparently knew Erroll Garner very well. One night when my step-father was doing his homework, Erroll came over to ask his father's opinion ...

R&B, Jump Blues

I recently purchased a cd "The Very Best of King - Federal - Deluxe volume one" and one song titled "Soft" by Tiny Bradshaw is outstanding. Have any of you used the song at a dance? I also like "My Ding A Ling" by Dave Bartholomew, but it is a little risque for a dance....

Nightmare gig for a new DJ

Have you ever done a job where you had constant problems with the equipment? I have done some dj work at a local studio with an awful stereo system. Sometimes I can barely see the display to know which track is playing. How do you prevent this type of job from being a total failure? I guess one solu...

Everytime I hear Sing, Sing, Sing anymore I think of the jams at Glen Echo. It shouldn't be that way because it is a great song.

Jake, thanks for the Percy Mayfield lyric.
Great, great song.
One I like is "GI Jive" by Louis Jordan or Woody Herman.

I like the Oliver Nelson arrangements and Wes Montgomery duets. Great stuff. I'm new here having dj'ed about a dozen times but I've been collecting music for a long time. I was listening to Jimmy Smith in the mid 1960's when I was a teenager. Walk On the Wild Side is a great song. Larry from Baltimore
