Pardon my ignorance. I just wasn't sure if New Testatment Basie stuff with Frank Foster and Neil Hefti arrangements was considered "original era music".

(And if it's not, then nonetheless it's good to know you also enjoy music beyond that specific genre.)

Slightly off topic but still related...

Just curious, Reuben, does an "original era music lover" like yourself dig Harlem Renaissance Orchestra? I ask 'cuz a big part of their book is New Testament Basie stuff. (Note: the 10/9 band is not HRO)

Kalman, if by "Shorty's Book" you mean late-night-exchange-groove-stuff, this won't be close at all to that book. If by "Shorty's Book", you mean world-class musicians who swing their asses off, you're right on the money. Hee hee...just to be clear...I was referring to what Y6A ...

Yehoodi 6th Anniv 10/9 - Greatest Band Ever to Dance To!?!?

Well, I guess not *ever*, but very arguably the greatest band *you'll* ever have the chance to dance to. Just wanted to give you all a heads up on this year's Yehoodi Anniversary Party which will be Oct 9th. We're finalizing all the details (already!), and pretty soon I'll be able to share with you ...

Jellyroll! Love that song, too, Nathan, and thanks to you it gets a lot of play here in NYC (the name of the song along has a special place in my heart ;) )

Definitely worthy of a higher up rank that Lindy Essential 38. LOL!

(Great songlist, btw!)

Well, since that is the only album of his that I've been able to find...I do often play those tracks, but have also been able to find some of his earlier recordings with Claude Hopkins and other bandleaders. My honorable mentions are stuff I like to play but don't have as much material or would be ...

Re: A Challenge...

So here's the challenge. I'd like to see a list of at least 5 local band's CDs (THAT ARE STILL ALIVE AND PLAYING), that you'd reccomend. This is my kind of thread! Excuse me while I brag for a moment about the greatest city in the world :) For Starters: - Junior Mance Trio - Live at Shanghai Jazz (...

Hey Dave! Funny you should ask...About a year ago, I went hunting at all the cd shops in Brighton Beach! I picked up two cds, one was actually an American trio that was produced in Russia and the other turned out to be this Klezmer/jazzy thing that didn't swing much at all. (names escape me right no...
