No, I found enough stuff to replace what I couldn't find. I could still use the disc.

I wanted to give a little background to this set, because it's quite different from the typical DJ set. From 2002-2005, I was in a truly unique position. I was recording some of the best live swing music available at some of the best swing events of the time. It started with the Dream Team's now-leg...

EDITED TO REMOVE SOME STUFF I DON'T REALLY BELIEVE. I will say two things: 1) Jonathan has done more than any person in recent memory to bring great live swing music to Los Angeles. Yeah, he's set in his opinions about trad jazz and bands like TH7, but that's his right. Regardless of Jon's opinons o...

Re: DJ 1800

Hi all, I've finally decided to fork out for a "proper" laptop DJ setup including a Griffin iMic and DJ1800 software. I'm yet to test the setup but everything I've seen so far makes me think this will improve my DJing experience, by adding song previewing and cuing to the song management ...

My rare post to this board because I stumbled upon this topic - I just want to qualify what I'm saying by saying that I'm most definitely -not- as knowledgeable a DJ as most people here, but I -do- know about microphone and recording techniques, especially for swing, as I've been recording various l...

A portable drive should also be durable. And have good tech support behind it. And the firmware should be decent.

Here is Marcelo's patented noise reduction trick for mastering scratchy vinyl. This is based off of Dolby's standards for type-B noise reduction, and is basically a roughed up version of that. You will need a sound editor for this (I recommend Pro Tools Free): 1. Cut everything above 8k and below 12...

I asked the engineers at the USC Sound Dept. (my bosses) and they recommend two brands above all else - Glyph and LaCie.

Glyph drives are by far the best, sturdy, made to take a beating. They're also the most expensive, but apparently the tech support is PRISTINE.

iTunes 4 also supports BPM info in the tags, and there's a plugin you can get that will let you tap the mouse along with the song and it'll enter the BPM automatically in the window. Spiffy.

Those of you Mac users (read: sensible computer people) can use DJ-1800 - it basically recreates a Denon 1800 4-disc CD player/mixer like those they use at a LOT of clubs. Someone with the software should play with this and see if it works nicely.
