I'm surprised that I don't see a list of the best free songs available on archive.org here. Am I just missing it? The quality isn't always the best, but it's legal/free. http://www.archive.org/details/AndyKirkHisTwelveCloudsOfJoy-CorkyStomp1929 http://www.archive.org/details/SweetAndHot http://www.a...

It's either around 120 or 60bpm. My first instinct was to count faster, but then I wasn't sure. All three songs seem to be about the same speed but some I've clocked at double the others. Anyone know what seems so tricky about these songs? Old post but interesting question that never got responded ...

Interesting! Do you have the track listing? http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2007-1/1236224/GUARNIERI.JPG This is a euro press copy I found online that for some reason left the "live echoes of the best of" part of the title off. Seriously though, I do not recommend it. It looks like the les...

a studio band with two recordings FYI, I have a 3rd album by many of the same folks called Live Echoes Of The Best In BIG BAND BOOGIE. The band's moniker was changed to The Will Bradley Johnny Guarnieri Band. I liked this the least of the 3 by far, but thought some of you might find it interesting ...

Lawrence, I see what you mean. To expound, it sounds like the main difference is that, in my opinion, The Big 18 is good music not GREAT. When I came up as a dancer/dj in 2001/2, I heard so much hype about the Big 18 from well-regarded DJs (and this forum), that I began that holy grail search for th...

Uh oh! What I 'feared'! They are over hyped in the swing dance scene? These albums were extremely popular in the "gap ad" era because it was vintage-ish but hi-fi - easy to listen and dance to. The masses couldn't take the lo-fi of the truly vintage, but these were a good compromise for t...

This link
indicates it was an episode of Beat! Beat! Beat! I have a lot of her early records, but nothing live. I can tell you that her "moanin' moanin' moanin'" album (what is it with these people and the repetitiveness?!?) has nothing this good on it. Thanks for posting it.

I think the important point here is that the King Sisters are clearly hotter than the Andrews Sisters.

Re: How do you get late 30s tracks to sound brighter at danc

How do you get these tracks to sound brighter at dances? The best tool a DJ has for this is the EQ. On a standard DJ mixer with 3 EQ Knobs - low, mid, high, my default for modern recordings is to leave the EQ flat (set in the middle). My default for early recordings is to increase the high, decreas...

Numark CD Mix-2 http://www.discostudio.co.uk/djshop/product_info.php?product_id=21 What are your thoughts? Sorry I'm chiming in so late. I read the forum like once a year just for lack of time (not lack of interest). I had the Numark CD Mix-2 - or rather I had 3 or 4 of them. I lost track. They're ...

Re: How do you advertise?

I've just been invited to dj at a $6 indoor evening event. [snip] How do you advertise for your events? What do you recommend for someone who's new to advertising? Tell us some more about the new venue. Have there ever been dances there? Is it on a night that competes with other dances in your area...

"Ain't That Fine" off of his Essential Collection was the first song I regularly played at swing dances. I played "Let's Go Get Stoned" off of Crying time at Seattle Lindy Exchange after a 20 minute tech problem interrupted my set. "Going Down Slow" off that same album ...

In my case it means have a 60-minute mix (all blended - no gaps) burned to a cd. Before I just had one LONG track, but I needed to be able to put in track markers (to be able to fast forward to a specific song) without putting a space in the mix. Then, along came Feurio (http://www.feurio.com). It's...
