ditto what Mikey said. I dj'ed 'Rachin in Rhythm' on Monday, it's a great hard driving song to lindy hop to.

oh and for you music nerds out there - Rachin' in Rhythm is not a typo [although it is pronounced the same as "Rockin"]. And can you tell who the Dickey is in "Dickey's Blues?" ha ha ha.

worst request ever

I thought we had a thread about worst requests ever but it seems to be buried in a couple of threads. So I'm dj'ing at the Century last Sunday, which is all ages and typically chock full of college age kids. One girl comes up to me and asks for "Jitterbug" by Wham. I stare at her... then s...

For most venues in Seattle the dj pay rate is $10 to $40 an hour. After 4 years of volunteering for a weekly non-profit club dance I worked on the board for a year, and there were also some other dj's on the board, and we were able to institute a $10/hour rate. The effect is that there are a lot mor...

I have a later Jimmy Rushing album I play a lot - I think it's called "Everyday I have the Blues". recorded 70ish.

There is a great version of "Sent for you Yesterday" that is high energy, 185 bpm. There are also some really great blues torch song numbers.

I was able to listen to a preview of the CD last week and also dj'ed some songs at the Century this Sunday. People enjoyed dancing a lot and I think all the tracks are dj'-able.

The members of the band are all great players and I was really impressed with the CD. So get your order in now!

I will be there. Looking forward to seeing all the great bands. For interested parties Allen Toussaint is playing at the Village Vanguard for his new CD from next Tuesday. I am going to try to get there for the Tuesday night. Russell good call, I'm not coming in until the 20th but will try to catch...

And the DJ lineup features an all swingdj alumni cast for the most part. Who's dj'ing the comps? I'm real...

ok I downloaded v13 this weekend. Good thing I had given myself some time to check it out before I dj'ed since you get a brand new executable; the library is imported for you, but any changes you make in v13 are not backward compatible to v12. The v12 executable remains installed and can be used sid...

Allen Toussaint - The Bright Mississippi

Just finished listening to The Bright Mississippi by Allen Toussaint, featuring quite a bit of Nicholas Payton. It's an excellent CD, and has a lot of classic jazz tunes; including a couple that I have been hearing a lot lately - Winin' Boy Blues and Blue Drag. Check it out.

I've heard a Loose Marbles version which has vocals. It's sweet. Hey Sam! I can hear the Loose Marbles in my head right now doing this song but I always forgot to look on my laptop when I get home; I heard them do it many times the week they were here in Seattle and it was great! Nice and fast and ...

For older Ellington I love "Blues in Orbit", C Jam Blues off of that work is my favorite version. I also like Pie Eye Blues and In A Mellow Tone, and Smada is fun to play if you feel like throwing out some salsa breaks to the crowd. and speaking of Billy Strayhorn "And His Mother Call...
