I haven't seen the movie, but I can tell you that his "five pennis" were really about 10 men playing at a time, but only 5 got credited on recordings. On some of the early stuff, Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey were both uncredited artists of his.

Have to say, I love the Les Young version more than anything else, but I also have the Dizzy Gillespie in Paris version, as well as a Django Reinhart version that I can't rembmer where i got, but is glorious.

Ok, i recently got screwed by itunes and when i downloaded 9 it lost all my bpm tags, so i have been using Delay Time (on Jesse's Suggestion), and have found that it is a few counts slow. For Example, The 1940 Duke Ellington Recording of Cottontail, the original, should be right at 240, but after ta...

CottonTail by Duke Ellington

I am writing a research paper on Ellington and Cottontail, with a large section on Ben Webster and his famous solo in the original recording.

Take consideration the sound system at the venue. It isn't always as kind to older music as your home system. This seems to be one thing Djs always forget. I was at a venue with a particularly good acoustics, and no Sub at all, so all the dancers ever heard was echoing screeching Clarinet or really...

[Answered] For Dancers Also, Les Elgart

The song is Three to get ready, but i got it off a collection cd that didn't have artist names, I found the rest of the artists through emusic, but couldn't find this one. Its in the 210 to 220 bpm range, and it sounds like a Lunceford or les brown styling. Lots of horns, no strings. I'm not entirel...

I love slim and slam, but "laughin' in rhythm" just makes me cringe.
my version is from a cd called "1938-1939" that was in a collection.

Inversely, I have known alot of DJs at small events to think that slow means the pace of my grandmothers walk...

and the quality of the dancers. Some music is inherently easier to dance to. Django is not one of those artists. Glenn miller is. It seems that the smaller venues tend to be packed with good dancers, and larger venues are packed with a lot of beginners.
