Numark just came out with their ttUSB, which apparently, is a plug-and-play turntable (USB, I believe). Don't know much about it, but it looks possibly promising.

This has been tested time and time again and I think the answer is usually 'God, no.' A friend of mine and I tried playing a whole night of suggestive, or somewhat weird (lyrics wise) songs (Big long thing, My heart belongs to daddy, The Spinach Song, Fine brown man, amongst others) and no one paid ...

Small can of worms--What is swing?

Now before you all jump on me for being a troll, I'm more interested in where the word 'swing' came from and how the 'sycopated', hang back style of music we associate with jazz from the swing era became known as being 'swung'. The reason I ask is because people who have little or no music backgroun...

The organizers of Herrang, as far I could tell, wanted to emphasize the philosophy that Herrang is a dance camp centred around lindy hop (and boogie woogie in weeks 1 and 2) and lindy hop traditions. As far I could tell, I was never told that fast was necessarily better, but that the 'feel' of the c...

I still cannot believe the jam circle kept going through Chicken Rhythm. Yes yes, Mike, I know now that it was too clever. This grasshopper is still learning.

But I'm still utterly stunned.

I'm almost all set. I have my ticket to London. Going to pick up my ticket to Stockholm (I got a cheap student fare from London to Stockholm flying SAS into the Int'l Airport). I think I'll sort of play it by ear. I'm planning two weeks, but I may only stay for one (but probably stay for two really)...

Hey all, I just got a plane ticket to London last night and I am a Herrang noob, in the worst way. I have nothing else planned so far other than the plane ticket there and the plane ticket back on the 26th. Help! I know I need to get to Stockholm and bus it to Herrang, but that's it. I haven't decid...

I can't speak for the law in the US, but in Canada, you pay a levy on blank CDs, harddrives and other blank media, whose revenue supposedly goes to the Canadian Private Copying Collective who distributes royalties to musicians with copyrights in Canada. Hence, copies for personal use are permitted, ...

Billie Holiday and Swing low?

I had a request Wednesday night to play Billie Holiday's Swing Low. Unfortunately, I don't have it--nor can I even find it in her discography (on allmusic.com) Does anyone know which album this might be on, or if Billie ever recorded it?

The Oscar Brown Jr. tracks on both the Verve Remixed and Unmixed 2 are great. I believe the song is "Brother, where are you?"

If I'm away in another scene, it's ultra important to me to incorporate local talent into my sets. In my own scene, not quite as much, since we go out all the time to dance to them live. Not much point in playing the band you just heard two weekends ago.
