So I've been DJing for my local swing dance organization since January. I'm relatively new, but I'm pretty popular with the dancers. Anyway, I was just wondering how to get involved with out of town workshops, exchanges, and competitions. Organizers in my scene know me and my music, but most other swing dance scenes don't know that I DJ, or in some cases, that I even exist. So how do I get invited to DJ swing events in other cities/states/countries? How do you put yourself out there? I have an official DJ Facebook page to help promote myself, but most of my likes are from locals.

Are you already traveling a lot and attending and dancing at many of these events you are interested in DJing at? If so, great. Continue to do so, get to know the organizers, the fellow DJs and maybe even offer to DJ a volunteer spot to get your foot in the door and make a positive impression. If you're not already doing so, then see my same advice above.

Best of luck!

Jesse

Jesse's right - I would talk to as many different people at the event - dancers, djs and organisers. Be as flexible as you can while you are trying to get a first spot. If you think there might be something missing with dj'd music, which you could provide, then it should help. (EG. if quite a few dancers and organisers think the music is too fast or too slow). Playing your standard set from your existing scene might not be right for a different one - so be prepared to adapt.
