DJ with laptop

I need to go laptop from DJing with CD's, but am overwhelmed by all the choices for hardware, DJ software, etc. I have an idea of hard drive and memory capacity, but Mac or PC laptop? What program goes in next to rip CD,s for playlists? What do most (or the best) DJ's use? I see lots of things mentioned in the forums, but confusion is where I end-up. I am of the generation that's not completely comfortable with computers (other than e-mail and internet searches). Can anybody advise me...?

I think the first choice you need to make is...

Mac or PC?

First you need to decide what program you want to use to DJ...then pick the OS and hardware.
