I can't really say why exactly, but it feels so great to dance to that backbeat clapping. :wink:

Bob Chester and His Orchestra - Clap Your Hands on the Afterbeat (1940)

It's available on 1940-1941 (Circle, ?) as well as on the Second Circle Sampler (Circle, 2003).

oh I agree - "Goody Goody" is definitely a go to song to get people up and dancing. The combination of Ella, the tempo, and the clapping work really well.

The original GM version from 1940...and any accurate recreations.

Oh - Benny Goodman....ummm....Six Flats Unfurnished, IIRC. Very tricky.

On a related subject, I've noticed when people start clapping their hands at a dance, it's a sign that there's some dance energy in the room. It's best when people not dancing start clapping their hands. It's as if they are becoming infected by the music.

By no means am I saying that you should do this, but it would be pretty straightforward to add claps to songs.
