Sound Quality song (recording) Exchanging

It’s amazing how different the exact same recording can sound on different albums. Some times you have a great song, but what ever master it was taken off was just not as good as some of the others out there.
Have you ever gotten together with a music loving friend to exchange the exact same recording for the better sound quality one?
Next thing is, how legal it this? If you have brought an album with a recording on it, that has poor sound quality, how Illegal is it to exchange it (with a friend) for the exact same recording with better sound quality?
I haven’t done this yet, but am thinking of it, & I’d like to hear your views?

good remastering is copyrighted work by experts who like to get paid, so, yes.

("do as I say, not as I do"...)

Nope. If I want a better quality of a recording, I go out and buy the album.

Since the songs are technically from two different albums, I would assume this activity to be illegal.

Thanks for the information.
Whats funny is that some of the remastered are the ones I don't like.
